Not on a daily driver, but if it's a trailer queen or something you just drive to and from the trails then they're usable.
I read a lot about square driveshafts on Colorado 4x4 a while back...most of the reasoning has left my brain, but the general advice is still there :D

they can be very strong, and can be made to not vibrate too bad. I've heard of them running up to 40mph with out vibrations. just depends how straight you weld it and how good your square tube fits together. I still haven't decided if I am going to run a square shaft or have one made, but the biggest difference is cost. a square tube shaft can be made for less than $40.
