well after a long summer of trips, its time to get my SAS done. I am planning on doing it Sunday August 12th. I am hoping to get at least the front done in one day. The rear shouldn't be to hard, cause I'm just using blocks and shakles for now. I have monday morning off as well, so if I run into issues I have extra time. If anyone wants to join in, let me know.

Directions and info

Date: Sunday Aug 12th at 8am

Location: 12207 W. Chenango Dr. Morrison, 80465

Directions: Mapquest and Goolge get you close but they are both missing the street its actually on. Here are directions from 285 and Simms St. From 285 go south on Simms St. Go straight through both round abouts and continue South on Simms. Go about 1/4 mile and go west (right) on Chenango Ave. (if you go up a big hill and get to bellview you went to far) Go about 1/4 mile west on Chenango Dr and take a right (north) on Chenango Dr (yes I typed that right there is about 18 chenango's in that area this one will be the thrid right from simms). If you go past the park you have gone to far. From here there are no more street signs, its all chenango dr. Take a right at the T in the road then take the next right and follow it to the fence, its the last house on the left.

My Phone Number for when you get lost: 303.668.1698

I have Air tools, 120v plasma, ginder (an extra one might help so we can work on both sides at once), two sets of metric and standard sockets/wrenches, welder, could use a second set of tall floor stands, other than that I think I'm good on tools.

I'll have beer/soda there and some chips/snack food. I'll probably order pizza at some time during the day.

The day before RONIN CO, you know you want to get dirty before you go camping. :) If anyone needs some space to do some last minute work they can join.

I just want to show up so you can show me how to use the plasma. Plus the experience would be cool so that one day maybe I could SAS my truck

Well, if my cutting off the original brackets off the axle is any indication I suck at the plasma. But, I'm learning, and get better every time. Plus its fun. :)

It will be completly different from your SL lift. You wont have to cut or weld anything. Your SL will be a breeze.

Looks great. That must be some serious heat to blue that tube.

Did you do a cut and turn also?

It was Tig welded with a high nickle rod.

That's why it looks so good. I was thinking "Damn, Clay's dad is getting really good with that mig welder."

:D No, he took it into work and had his welder guy do it. There is paint over them now so the pretty blue is gone. :D

I got everything back together and was torquing down the wheel spacers ab broke a stud. Damn it! Now I've got to take it back apart and press in a new one.

Nissanclay

Well, turns out I didn't break the stud, I was putting the on right before work so I didn't have time to investigate so I assumed I broke it. I actually stripped the nut. Then, I dropped the torqu wrench from 100ft/lbs to 90ft/lbs and did it again. WTF!! Why are the nuts striping out? The instructions say to torque them between 85-110. The real pain is I can't find any of the replacement nuts that match the one's spidertrax uses. Ideas? Should I just wait till the axle is on the truck, try torquing them again and hope for the best?

You need better quality nuts. I did a few axles that way.

But the best way is a press. Super easy this way.

I upgraded my latest dana 44 to 12mm 1.5. dorman 610 264. The tiny 7/16 suck. Plus there SAE. I try to keep my truck all metric. Less tools to carry.

My studs are 12-1.5. The studs didn't break, the nuts that hold the spacers to the axle striped.

Ah, did not know you used spacers. I used cheap autozone lugs to install 24 7/16 studs. Never tried that method with the 12mm studs though. They are tight. A press your is your best bet. Does ryan not have one?

I have a press but I don't need one for this. The nuts that came with the spacers and screw on the the 12-1.5 wheels studs and hold that would normally hold the tire on are striping when being torqued. There is nothing wrong with the wheel studs and they do not need to be replaced. The issue lies in the nuts that screw on to the studs and hold the spacers in place.

Once again, nothing wrong with the studs, they are fine.

I've used the "pull it on with a lug nut and some washers" technique on 12mm studs, it should work fine. Just go get some cheap (like 50 cent each) lug nuts from the auto parts store. For pulling on studs I like to use the ones that are open in back rather than the "acorn" style, so that you don't have to worry about the stud bottoming out in the nut (hmm, I wonder if that's why yours are stripping?).

The nuts they gave me are the open end style.

I picked up some new ones from Discount today that are taller. I'm hoping the more threads they have solve the problem.

Figured out the wheel spacer nut situation and I'm surprised no one has run into this. Turns out the Wheels studs for a D44 are 7/16-20 thread pattern. Toyota (which the spacers are designed for) use a 12-1.5 thread pattern. Turns out, that they are just close enough so that it will thread on and tighten up, just not torque. And just out of curiosity, I took a lug nut off my truck to see what it was and it is neither. Nissan does not use the same as toyota or a 1985 jeep. :) Off to Auto Zone I go!

Nissan uses 1.25 pitch. toyota/GM use 1.5. Thats cool thats all it was.
