Hey guys/gals! Im new to Colorado and looking for some people to go out and wheel. I have a 1991 Pathy with:
3" Calmini Suspension Lift
3" Body Lift(not a big fan of body lifts)
5 33x12.50 Pro Comp Xterrains on 5 15x8 Rock Crawler Steel Wheels
Custom front and rear bumpers (still adding to them)
Pacesetter Ceramic coated headers
New heads with better than stock Head studs;) (those of you who know how fun it is to fix the stock leaking manifold with busted studs)
Brand New Exhaust From collector back (Gibson)
Things to come:
Port and Polished heads.
Number 2 Nismo offroad cams
ECU Upgrade
Bottom end rebuild
Im waiting until "project bronco" is done before i start all this work on the pathy.

hey thanks! whats funny is that im a big fan of the 47 ronin and i find it fitting that we as nissan owners are winding up as ronin haha. Im really stoked at the amount of people that are on this site/board.
As far as the bronco project. Its getting a 4" or 6" lift with 35"s.
Edelbrock EFI Intake System.
Edelbrock cam
Headers
Port and polished heads(cant decide between GT40 or stock...depends on cost)
Engine Reuild
This should boost the HP enough i the 5.0 engine to handle bigger tires. and still be semi effecient.
My pathy gets 20-22 miles to a gallon highway. So the bronco will be for gas guzzling fun.
As for the bumber i will send more pics. I build plate steel bumpers in my shop, so if anyone is interested let me know. I kept mine simple because I didnt want the ARB style monster 250lb bumper, but i would like a winch eventually.

Yea I like your bumper alot, I'll probably have to seek you out when I'm ready for one (soonish). Do you make skids and do you have a price quote on 'em?
Oh and how do you get 20-22 mph? Damn Pathfinders and their economy....grumble grumble..

Hmm never thought about price. Im sure i can make some cool skids no problem. Its all steel to me. :) i want to build a slim line bumper that will take a winch(kind of a stealth style) if you are into that. were you looking for the same bumper or more stuff on it? tow hooks, stinger, light mounts etc.
looks like im going to make another stop by Den COL....... is this the best place to get material? or is there another?

oh yeah mpg. well i got that in texas, but im not sure about up here. Ill tell ya what though....headers, heads, regular Cap, Rotor, Plug, wire change and throttle body cleaning helps a lot. the gas in Colorado SUX! I havent seen 85 Octane in TX for a long time. I put "premium" 91 Octane in my truck to try and keep it clean. 91 Octane in TX is Mid grade gas. Oh well...... with the new cams, P&P heads, ECU upgrade it should get even better mpg. If not im buying a sammy haha.

The octane ratings are lower in the higher elevations because of the thinner air, so 85 here will perform fairly close to 87 near sea level.
Diggin on that bumper, though.

ahh, thats cool, well i guess i can put medium grade in the car. did not know that. thanks! I figured there would be some reasoning behind it, but i thought it would be environmental.

This is my favorite place to get steel: http://www.kksurplus.com/
They have scrap at 50 cents a pound for most stuff (more for stainless, galvanized, and other special stuff). They usually have a good selection of tube and plate in the scrap part of the yard. They also have a pretty good selection of new steel at good prices, and they're usually willing to sell small lengths of tube without charging a ton extra.

You don't need medium grade gas in your car or any vehicle unless it's supercharged or otherwise modified for higher than standard compression ratios. There's nothing "better" about higher octane in any way other than its ability to resist pre-ignition under high compression. If you don't have high compression (and/or if you have less oxygen in the air like we do up here) then higher octane buys you nothing (but it buys the oil company executives a bigger mansion).

Thanks for the Steel tip! I guess im going to have to go this route to justify higher octane :)

yeah the website claims it is for the 3.0 and 3.3 96-06, so im wondering if with a lilttle help from a dremel if it would work. ive read on a few other nissan sites that it worked........the squeeky wheels are turning......or i just have too much time on my hands:rolleyes:

Yea I love the style of your bumper so something like that would be fantastic. Tow hooks and light mounts fo sho, but I'm not into the stingers. Maybe a bull bar that just goes up in front of the head lights, like the schrock works one (http://www.shrockworks.com/Nissan-Frontier-Winch-Bumper-Bull-Bar-1998-2004-pr-16151.html).
I'm gonna need a couple skid plates 1st though, so I'm actively looking for those.

which skids do you need. is it for the frontier? my shop is in parker(the stix) so i will need a couple of hours to do some measurements so the fab goes smoovely. I live in the highlands couple blocks from 23rd and I-25. let me know.

If you're interested in picking up a SC unit I've got a factory one that I bought from ElementalVoid. It's in really good shape, but my engine plans have changed and I could really use the cash. $200

For skid plates, I have cardboard templates of the skid-row plates all ready to trace out onto some plate steel and have at with a plasma torch. Of course, that only gets you the flat part of the plates, the tricky bit is the edges where the strength comes from. Do you have a brake that can bend 3/16 plate about 30-36" wide? Actually, I think one of the plates is more like 48" long and has a bend that goes down the whole side except a little 2" piece in the middle. That plate (the t-case one) also has a bend of a few degrees in the middle (it needs to be lower at the middle crossmember to leave space for the exhaust).
I also have a 6x6' sheet of 3/16 plate that I bought with the idea of making some skids for Martin's truck, then a great deal on some used skids came along and now I don't know what to do with 280lbs of steel plate in my garage. :) I'm willing to sell it (or as much of it as you'd need) for the price I got it for: 50 cents a pound.
My plan for making skids was to avoid the whole bending problem altogether by just welding 1" bar stock along the sides where the Skid Row plates have bends. It wouldn't look as factory-professional that way, but I think that home-built look is pretty cool.

A good way to "garage bend" those edges is to grind a line half way through the metal where you want it to bend, pound it over towards the ground side and weld it back in. Looks good and doesn't show unless ya go lookin' for the welds on the backside.

I am interested in taking that off your hands. I am going to be making a stell run this week so ill get some info on meeting up. im pretty sure i have a break available to me that will bend the plate. im going to an auction on sat morning, so who knows i might end up with a hydraulic break and mandrel bender:B&B:

you gotta let me know how you do it if it wasnt a kit. when i tore down the engine to do a head gasket this week i noticed that I could use a lower end rebuild. Im going to pick up a block from somewhere (ebay, salvage yard) and build it up outside the truck with all the tricks i can put into it. im REALLY keen on a Supercharger.....it sounds like a lot of fun. let me know.
