I just wanted your guys advice on if I should get a 3" body lift for my 1989 nissan pathfinder? I know it would cost a lot, but I would love the aggressive look it would give, if it would give it that much difference at all.

That is pretty much what I am asking, will it be that much of a difference or just a let down?

The body lift will let you fit bigger tires but that's about it. It shouldn't be that expensive though (unless you count buying the new tires to make it look right :D). Though I will say this, your Pathy will look like poo (IMHO) with a 3"BL and 31s.

Yea I don't plan on buying new tires anytime soon lol. The bfg's still have great tread. People have thought it already has a lift, I just was wondering about it.

wrong sub-topic IMO

It will make a difference but like Tyler said it will allow you to fit bigger tires. And yes it will look kinda weird to begin with. As long as YOU dont have an issue with the look at first then go for it.

edit.... moved it to the Suspension sub topic.

Yea sorry I posted it in the wrong sub-topic...I wasn't paying too much attention. So for now I will just put the money to other uses as opposed to the lift since I have seen some with a lift and 31's...they do look goofy. So thanks for the advice.

Do you have an open rearend? I'd recommend buying a lockright, or if you don't like that idea, an ARB, for the rear. It's amazing what you can do with little tires and a locker!

Sorry...still new to all of this. What do you mean by an open rear-end?

Locked vs UnLocked rear end.

the real question is what do you want from your truck. is it an A-B car, transportation only, maybe a little fun? or do you want to build it for some harder trails and keep it streetable, or do you want to hack the piss out of it keep in the garage except every once in a while. i opted for number three, and i have one run this year on a 5 rated trail. at least i got one trip in though.

Sully, when you spin the tires in the snow or mud or pavement, does only one tire spin? If so you have an open diff, if both tires try to spin, then you've most likely got a limited slip diff (lsd). If you've got the lsd, the loc-right won't fit.

Both tires spin, unlocked rear-end, and it's A-B with fun. But, I want it to look more aggressive than it does right now. But I don't plan on going to Moab or Rubicon anytime in the future. Seeing as I am in school and have one vehicle...I need to keep this one ding and dent free and running at 100% for a long time. Maybe when I am rich and buy out Bill Gates I will transform it into a garage only trail 5 rated badass...:roflmao:

Don't worry about Moab. I took my truck there as my DD and stil had it under factory warranty and bank note.

One thing to think about if you do get the lift without tires is you will be able to get more flex

I still got the 89 suspension system...the front independent sometimes sqeaks when I go off a curb at the wrong angle XD...so more flex with this thing is like saying a 145 year old woman doing the splits in mid air over a bus...

Yea, it doesn't look like the dramatic change I saw before. They prolly did something different. Nice pathy ;). I took my stock fender flares off, the rims made the tires rub. And I had to trim the front plastic guard under the front bumper...which I need a new of -.-. I hit a tree and the cement holder of a light pole. Not too much damage either way...0-5 mph each time...but it still moved the bumper and dented it...so time for a new one.

Do you have other pix? And one question...how much did it cost for the lift + installation..or did you install it yourself? And I think Packman told me when I bought the spare from him that to get a little lift get longer torsion bars and jeep coils?

itsme1738

So would it be easier to pay for it professionaly done which is about a grand at Outdoor Unlimited...or would it be easier to do it myself with minimal mechanic know-how and limited time?
