hey guys ive been doin alot of research about solid axle swapping on 88-95 pathfinders but i still have some questions that i was hopin you all could answer?
first off....i know everyone is using the d44 without the vaccum lock with the pass. side diff. drop. but one of my family members has a d30 with the pass. side diff. drop .could i use this? and im pretty sure its not as strong as the 44, the type of wheelin i would be doin is mild no rockcrawlin just mild trails and sometimes daily transportation...
also if i do get a hold of a d44 will i need to cut and turn the c's? is it necissary?*(spelling?)
i would end up doin the spring under most likely also.

sorry if these are pretty basic questions i was just unclear.
this forum just seems like you guys are waaaayyy more knowledgable with sas's and stuff so thanks guys~

Yes, you could use the 30 (aside from the strength issue) it will cost more in the long run to use a pass drop diff because you would need to do something to get the t-case output to the other side.

Yes, I think there have been some that have not turned the C's....I think they all have had driveshaft vibs. Spring under may be fine.

What size tires are you thinking about? You may save money now but its going to cost you more in the future if/when you break it so why take the chance? Its going to cost you $65 more to get a d44 from a junkyard so why not just save the future work?

Spelling is "necessary" btw. And as for an axle...don't ask me...

Whatever axle you find...make sure it's DRIVERS drop, not passenger drop (Bill already said why, I just wanted to emphasize it).

ha just caught that sorry, it is actually a drivers side diff. dont know why i had passengers side in mind, but k cool that helps alot
oh and i plan on runnin 33-35 inch tires
i dont think there is a huge demand around here for the d44 so ill start callin around to jy's.

anyone else know if i would have to cut the c's for a spring under?

thanks alot guys

With 35's you will need to rotate. Nissannut runs 35's on his HB and ended up rotating his. The HB also comes from the factory with the body setting higher off the frame than the Pathy. So you will need either a body lift or a little more lift than what he used in order to have the same effect.

Here is his HB with spring over. (http://nissannut.com/projects/sas/)

Here is a Pathy he did with 33's and spring under. (http://nissannut.com/projects/SAS_WD21/)

don't waste money on a dana 30 i have one under my jeep you can have for free if you want... Your really gonna want a dana 44 and probably 5.13 for a gear ratio...

I talked to my bro and he made fun of my pathfinder :(. He said that engine of mine wouldn't even turn the dana 44, and that big ass 1 ton duallies run them.

Your brother, sorry to say, is full of shit. 1 ton duallies run Dana 60s and equivalent axles, not 44s. 44s came out of Grand Waggies, 1/2 ton pickups, and the like...a 1 ton truck on a D44 is just asking to break shit.

ETA: most Nissan SAS jobs are based on D44s and they do just fine...your bro is just jealous of your Pathy :D

Um Yeah lets see here is the list of Nissans IN CO on D44s:

Ryan Gee- Pathy
Kevin Copeland- Xterra
Clayton Garner- Frontier
Chris Patrick- Xterra
Allen Cox- Xterra, I think is a D44
Tyler Hagain- Xterra
Ben Curley- Hard Body
Masdeswede- Xterrra if he still has it
Jordan Malbouef- Next Gen X
Jamie- Pathy

I know there are others, and this is just in CO. Across the nation.... quite a few more.

Dana 44 front

And Dana 44 rear

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m22/curleyben/Rampandlift/2003_0101nissan0007.jpg

And i'm pushing them with my 2.4 liter 115 hp 4cyl 230,000 mile motor at highway speeds (75) with no trouble... Infact with the correct gear ratio one could turn a dana 60 with a lawn tractor motor... I know this only because i have seen it...

I kinda found that out today when he said last night about my gear ratio, he thought it was a lot less. Then I found out today what it is and I told him. He is a chevy nut, so he definately underestimates my pathfinder. He says a 3" BL wouldn't do good for anything and that it's just for show. Sorry, but an 18" lift is just for show.

Awesome, you're learning fast, and I didn't have to call your family members names :D

when I was wheelin out there back then, it was thought that only heep cj's would make those trails for the most part, and as for the truck I had back then, they were right! I could only make it over some of them because of my wheelbase ( plus I only had 31" tires on a shortbed 78' chevy, it was in the days of American or nothing, & with me growing up in the redneck town of Cortez, well, nuf said.plus back then , as I remember alot of trails did'nt have names, the only ones I remember were the hogback wich is the lion's back now, Cain springs( the sand pit out west), & I don'tremember the name of the trail out towards the Colo river that drops off to the S.E. , but I remember if you didn't stay between the white painted spikes in the rock, you would most likely roll it going off the hill. Hell it's been over 20 years since I've been there, that sucks, oh & yea I still remember skinnydipping at the power dam!!used to see alotta nekkid girls out there.:D
