Its finally time for me to lift it! :bannana:
Things to do:
-Calmini Shackle Install
-2" Body Lift Install
-Sway-a-Way Torsion Bars Install
-Install freaking huge tires (33x12.5x15, and freaking huge is compared to stock crappers...I mean grabbers)
Maybe even Shocks and a Steering Stabilizer (depends if they arrive in time).
People Attending:
-GarrettE (BL, PML, maybe shocks)
-Royce Danford (Possible BL)
-elementalvoid
-EricP
Possible Garages:
-Greeley at Royce Danford's Garage
-Parker at Elementalvoid's Garage
-Highlands Ranch at Eric P's Garage (if I remember correctly that is)
-Fort Collins at Zoninabrat's Garage
After the mod day, I will need to get an Alignment done. So if anyone knows of a good place to get it done, let me know!
Who else needs stuff done? Who wants to help out with my stuff? Who wants to come, have a few beers, laugh and have a good time?
I will provide beer, and possibly even pizza for those who come and help!

Hmm...I was kind of wanting to get started earlier in the morning, since I've heard body lifts take all sorts of hours. But I would think that it would be best to be working while there is still light out.
Any body else have a place and that could start earlier in the morning (9ish)?

Depends on your bolts... how stuck they are and if your shifter needs to be altered.

I would be willing to host... I have tools and a two car garage. My truck has 5" of room with the 3" AC suspension lift with BOTH the AAL and shackle in back and 31" tires.
Your tires could easily be put on after getting it out of the garage.. That way there isn't a height problem. Also, it would be nice to know if I can do a 2" or 3" BL later on and still fit.
A warning though.. I HAVE NEVER DONE A BODY LIFT!!! That didn't stop me from doing my suspension lift, or any other mods, myself though.

Really Kevin? Well I was planning on hitting each of the bolts with that PB Blaster (rust loosener stuff) for the entire week starting monday (11-27).
Elementalvoid, thanks for the offer, I'll keep your place in mind. But as of right now, I say lets just wait to see who will be attending, and what else needs to be done on other peoples rigs. The reason I want to start in the morning, is just in case things don't go as planned, we will still have time to get it done. And not be working in the dark.
Allan said that he would be willing to alter the shifter at his shop. So that can wait til after the mod day. I just want to get the BL and PML installed on the same day.
We could probably even have it on Sunday (12/3) if that works better than Saturday. But, its still a couple of weeks away, and things can change.

I can probably come. A BL should take 2-3 hours if everything goes well.
Please take your truck to a car wash and blast away as much dirt as you can from the underside.
Be careful with the PB Blaster. It has negative effects on some plastic & rubber. WD-40 would be better since I know it won't eat away the existing rubber body mounts.
I have helped/put on at least 5 BLs including mine. The 2" is fairly easy. I have not tried a 3".
The PML is another 2-3 hours. Soak both ends of the t-bars with PB blaster ot WD-40. As a precaution, go to a Nissan dealer and get 2 T-bar adjustor bolts & nuts. This is just in case the adjuster bolts have seized & we have to power them off.
I will also offer up my garage. I have the 3" SL & 2"BL plus lights on top and still have clearance.
We will need 2 jacks for the lift install and. And at least 2 jack stands for the SL.

Thanks Eric for the tip. I just got off the phone with Boulder Nissan (the POS dealership), and they said they'd have to order them. Does $32.18 each sound correct? I think thats kind of steep for 'as a precaution'. I'll think about it, and maybe order them the week of the lift (he said 2-3 days to get them in stock).
If you say that WD-40 will work instead of PB Blaster, then I will just use that.
I was also just reading up on a BL writeup on XOC by AHTOXA, and I agree, it doesn't sound like it will take all that long. Just easier with more people and most of the time is preparing to do the mounts themselves.
Heres the link, in case anyone wants to check it out. http://www.xterraownersclub.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=001291

You just need the adjuster bolts & nuts, not the whole assembly. Allen picked me up two sets for less than $10 3 years ago when mine jammed during the suspension lift.
Maybe I am calling them the wrong thing?

I think for that price he is trying to sell you the back adjuster that is on the rear of the torsion bars. You only neet the bolts and nuts.

I could probably attend if it is somewhat close to me. I need to do diff/tranny/t-case fluid change (never done before) and I was thinking about hooking up a power invertor in the back. I would offer up my place but my garage is slammed with stuff, I could clean it up but it would still be tight with my chest freezer, and crap. Still might be cool if there is a CSU game going on that saturday as I live like accross the street from the stadium. My street is usually pretty fun on game day with all the CSU fans. Lets keep updated on this.

Alright, so possible options for places are Highlands Ranch, Greeley, Parker, or Ft. Collins. What works best for everyone?
It is about 50 miles to any of those 4 locations for me, so the only thing would be if someone can't make the drive from HR or Parker up to Ft. Collins or Greeley.
Where would you guys like to hold it at?
elementalvoid
11-15-2006, 09:47 AM
I should be able to make the drive to Ft. Fun/Greeley. That being said, I am not doing any mods so it is not so important that I make it (except for extra hands on the BL).
I was just offering my garage and tools in case it is an easier place to do it.
I'm good with anywhere.

The tires have been ordered as of 10am this morning, and I will have them Monday or Tuesday of next week.
Eric, are you still willing to host the mod day? If so, then lets plan on your place, so that we can get working a little earlier in the morning.
Does anyone else need anything done, or is it just me?

I'm all set. I will just be there for manual labor.

Eric, what tools would be beneficial for me to bring. I will bring wrenches/etc. but I can also bring my air compressor if needed. I only have an impact wrench and impact socket for it.
Let me know.

Sorry fellas, I work weekends this month, and most for that matter! LOL

The tools I have are limited, hilift, stock jack, 6ton jack stands, set of socket wrenches (both metric and american).
I've read about a piece of wood that will be needed for the install, does anyone know exactly about that, and should I plan on getting that before the mod day or just wait til the day and do it then?

get a 4x4x~10" or two helps with lifting the body up.
Alpine Spirit
11-21-2006, 02:25 PM
That piece of wood i what you put on the body to disperse the weight of the body. The body is not made to really put a jack on so you need to spread the pressure out. You use this to jack the body off of the frame.
GarrettE

I understand what the block of wood is for, but what I read is that it needs to have a groove cut into it going the length of the piece. Do I really need a groove in it, or would it be sufficient just to get a 4x4x10(or longer) piece of wood?

So the tires are being mounted as I type this, and I went to the local hardware store and picked up a can of 'In-Force' Ion-activated penetrating oil made by BG. The guy was saying it works better than PB Blaster and doesn't destroy anything, granted it was about 3-4 times more expensive than PB.
Eric, is your garage still open? Lets go ahead and get a list of people goin now, since Saturday will be here before we know it. WHOOOO!
Eric P

Garage is still avaliable.
If we use mine, I will need a list of names for the gate to get passes for.
I have one jack, wood blocks & most of the hand tools needed.
