View Full Version : Wiring issues

I was hoping to be able to start my new engine for the first time this morning but I'm running into some serious wiring issues. I built a wiring harness by combining parts of the VG and VH wiring harnesses, but that isn't even the problem. Nothing in the harness has power.

I really hope I'm just tired as hell and overlooking something easy. All of the switched 12V power wires don't have power with the key in. I'm getting dash lights and chimes, but everything that has to do with the engine has no power.

I first noticed the issue when I tried to drain my fuel. I was going to pump the remaining fuel out of my tank with the fuel pump hooked up to a bucket. With the key in and in the "ON" position, my fuel pump isn't getting power. I checked the relay and this seems odd:

The "coil" drawing on the relay (should have power all the time) has no power. The "switch" part (terminals 3 and 5 on relay) of it shows 12V across it.

What am I overlooking?????? :(

Forgot to add, the starter will fire up with key on "START".

There's a big "fusible link" type fuse, 40amp or so, in the box under the hood, which covers everything that should be active with key-on, that'd be the first thing I'd look at.

There's another relay, I believe it's something like ESC or ECSC relay or something like that that controls the power that you're looking for. The computer grounds it to give the power to the other relays. I'd look for that, should be on the driver's side, near the battery, or on the passenger's side near the firewall.

If you tell me what harness diagrams you've used to build your harness, I could take a look at them and see if there's anything I can see there.

try the eccs fuse also. Thats for your engine computer and all related engine electrical. Mine popped and i spent a couple hours figuring out why my engine wasnt firing. Starter still turned but no go. It should be in the fuse box by the battery. But just double check all fuses and what not.

Awesome...thanks for the advice. Got a few things to take a look at the next time I'm over there. Unfortunately I probably won't be working on it any until I'm out for Christmas break in 3 weeks.

I knew it was something like that, I'm just too lazy to open up my FSM and track it down this weekend. Still in a turkey coma! Leftovers aren't helping.

I was going to put up a couple pictures but looks like I left my memory card in the computer at home. I guess no updates will be posted until it's done.
