Hey Justin, here is a list.....
http://www.roninwheelers.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1250
I am in for sure. Might have a friend Joe coming, and possibly have Ron
You remember him, from the mod day with Royce we had earlier.
Oh and by the way, you should title this thread "Mod day? Need location!!!"
If you have a max distance that you are willing to travel, you can post that as well.
I am sure that there are a lot of people that want to do mods, and would prefer to do it amongst friends. I don't have any "mods" per say, but I do have some routine maintenance, and doing that with others may prove to be helpful. Heck, even if you have done something a million times. you may learn something new the next time.
Oh and You should start with shopping for the bolts FIRST!!!!! Fastenal should be local, or close to it. The SAE (standard as opposed to Metric) bolts are easy to find.
The pucks are much easier to obtain. I would call around to local shops first, and THEN, get online and order them if you can't find em. They might be a tad bit more expensive at a local shop, but when you compare with the price of shipping, it is in your favor to get them locally.
Make sure to call me if you have any questions, or post it on here!
Good luck bro!-James

I don't mind hosting if you want to come down to the Springs. I know James don't have a garage, but he does have a lot of tools. I have an air compressor, jack, & stands. Let me know what weekend you are thinking of. I am NOT available Jan 5 or 6. After that, you will be running against a surgery date for me, but I can push that to help club members out.........

Buy PB Blaster!!!!!!!!
Start spraying every body bolt and nut, 10 of em. Spray em every couple days until you are ready to put the BL on.

Guhnarlee!!!!! Woody, are we doing some minor stuff to yours? cap, rotor, wires, plugs? I just got some plugs yesterday. I also got some stuff for cleaning up the battery, and we can put the finishing touches on the CB as well.
Justin, since Woody is hosting, that means you and I buy lunch....
I would also move the date back a little further. I can bring all the tools.

I could host a BL install day in my garage. I have enough tools & have installed or helped install over 10 BL on Xterras.

Yeah I will. I've done it before, I am determined that there is an easier way though. I did it like 15-20K ago, but folks need write ups!

Let's get the OP to suggest a date for this and see who it works out for better. I am going to be having surgery near the end of January and will be down for about a month.
Justin - date in mind?

When we were doing Martin's clutch job I insisted that we replace the #6 plug while it was easily accessible from the back. Martin really didn't wanna sidetrack at that point, but I insisted, because I've done the #6 from the top before. We're gonna do the other 5 soon, and for the first time ever, it's a job I'm looking forward too now that the #6 is done.

13th works good for me. Might have a BL of my own to put on that day as well.
I need to know how many are coming and what works is going to be done so I can make sure I have everything needed. If I don't personally have it, I know a lot folks that work on vehicles and can borrow just about anything.
I will post directions closer to the date, but my house is on the east side of Colorado Springs (Hwy 24 & Constitution). All will be welcome after 7:00 AM as I am still needing my beauty sleep!!!!!!!

Hey, i haven't met any of you guys yet, but i would love to come to the mod day if i get the time on the 13th. I am moving to boulder on that day, but some things are just more important than others. I should be getting a new bumper for my X that i will really need some help getting on. I hope all the timing will work out:confused:

Sweet! Wes is another Transplant. Looks like we have quite a mod day coming up. It's going to be so warm there!
FYI, it looks like I am going to be the main tool supplier. The torque wrench that I was going to use is crapping out on me. Someone should bring one. Either that or I can grab another one. Either way is fine.
woody
01-03-2008, 11:12 AM
I have a torque wrench, air tools, floor jack, 2 jack stands (do we need more?)
If there are any specialty tools that are needed, then we will need to hunt those down.
Do we need more bodies? I see 2 vehicles being modded equally 4 guys. I can probably get some more hands to show for some help and general harassment.

Alright, I seriously do not think that we need more people. In fact, I think that we have a pretty full day. I am not going to do anything to my X actually. I will just be there to help.

Too bad this isn't going to be on the 12th. Tim (the dud) could have thrown the football with my 10 yr old that day.
Anyway, if my lift is here, I will be installing that the day before. Then I can focus and provide help to the others that are showing....... If my help aint needed, I am going to be drilling a hole in my roof so I can install my CB.

If you thought the N/A engine spark plugs were a pita to get to try doing it on the S/C motor.
No kidding. Just went through it. It sucked. I actually found plug four to be the hardest as there's some brackets and tubes under the inlet that were just flat out in the way.
Don't know if this will help much with plug 6, but I found it easier to get the socket in there by manipulating it with my left hand, though that may sound counter-intuitive. I could get things angled in there a bit better, because when my hand was angled to the left, my fingertips were pointing down and to the right, more in line with the direction that the plug had to drop in there. Just seemed easier that way, but then again, I'm left-handed. Also added a one-inch extension to the socket before plugging on the wobbler extension.
Other than that, some of the other guys I know have pulled the hood off to get a little more access.

Here is the list tools that James states we need to install the body lifts this weekend. I have also marked it with the ones that I do have. If any of you that are showing up have the other tools, please bring them.
================================================== ==
Tin Snips CHECK
Hammer (to loosen things up) CHECK
2 manual scissor jacks I have a floor jack and 2 jack stands. I can get to more stands if needed. Other wise we will be using the jacks from the Xterras.
Complete Metric tool set CHECK
Set of screwdrivers. (Stubby screwdrivers, long, wide, flathead, Phillips, star) I have all these if James brings mine back, otherwise I will be missing one
Nut driver I have a 1/4" nut driver
A few crescent wrenches I have at least one, maybe two.
A few 3”, 6”, and 12” extensions 3" & 6" CHECK
Speed wrench Need some clarification on "Speed wrench".
And a torque wrench CHECK
Drill (for rear bumper re-mounting) CHECK
½” Drill bit Fairly certain I have this size.
================================================== ==
Think that is all. I will post directions tomorrow.

About the screwdriver...
This has been riding shotgun for a while now. When I get in my X, he sits faithfully there. I pat him on his flat head and say "safety first" while I buckle him up. I have grown quite fond, and I might be giving you a snap on for a trade.
for speed wrench, google it.
For the rest of the tools, I will supply, no worries!

Do people still use speed wrenches in this age of cheap air power? I'm surprised.

As promised, here is a map and directions to my house for those of you coming from the north. If there is anyone else coming over, let me know from where and I will get more specific directions for you.

NoPipe - If you have done so already, take your receiver hitch off before you come over. It has taken me the last hour between PB Blaster, impact gun, and socket wrench to get it off. What a pain in the ass!

Why would you take your receiver hitch off? I never took mine off when I did the lift, I need it for towing
woody

If I need to tow something, I have an Armada (aka - The Pig) for that. I could not get the stud plates off for the bumper to come free.

ya i never took mine off when i did my BL you just have to make a few cuts in your bumper so that it fits back on..
soccerbrace
01-14-2008, 10:51 AM
Well I didn't understand that either. When we did your's, Matt's, Royce's, Woody's, or Justin's, there was no hitch removal. However, we did have a hell of a time getting the brackets loose off of Justin's. There is a frame support in there and the holes did not line up. We ended up BFH'ing it through. Before we stripped the thread's, Just bored out the holes to line up so none of the threads got damaged.
Brendon, you almost here?

Big thanks to James for all the help this weekend! Drilling that rear bumper sure was fun. After we mastered the technique, the remainder of the holes went fairly smoothly. Maybe next time we have a mod day, it won't get so cold so quickly!
Also, thanks to Jeff for the beer. After he left, no one else would drink it so I helped myself. I think there is about a 6pk left now, but I am sure that will disappear this week.

So I never took off the hitch nor did I cut the rear bumper to fit it. I also never re-drilled the rear bumper I just flipped the L-Mount around and used the same bolts, made the gap go away. I also never had to cut metal to engage 4 LO, Im guessing thats a 2000 thing?

The shifter lengthening is a hit or miss deal from 2000-2004 some need it, some don't and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

just like the chips in the keys for first gen. too. hit or miss.
So Brandon, do you have those mounts going into all 3 holes or are you just using 2 of them?

Just two of them. The rear bumper is on really sturdy, at least well enough to last me till a new rear tire carrier. Plus re-drilling didn't look fun.
soccerbrace

Oh it wasn't fun...... I am used to it though. Was a little out of it on Justin's and drilled it incorrectly. I think that we will use that trick if he is willing to only go with 2 holes.
When I did my BL, it took forever to do the drilling, I always tell the next person to have it done before mod day. If you have ever drilled it, it is a mood killer, although Woody and I had it down to a science.
DamnHippie
01-15-2008, 07:54 AM
Why is this drilling thing so much of a headache? I remember some bumper drilling going on behind us on the big mod day at my place last summer, and while I wasn't paying much attention, it seemed straightforward enough.

It is just tedious and for me when I did mine, I did it in the parking lot of my apt.
I didn't drill any pilot holes and I have a Drill Master drill from HF that cost $15. What a POS. So I took forever, and it kept on walking. Matt, John, Brendon and I were all having a good time back there so that is why you didn't hear any gripes, but it is no fun.
