I got a remote starter for Christmas, and I am going to install it myself. I saw this and wondered if this would work on an 03 frontier. it only lists a few years but does the wiring change after those years?

Thanks.

I posted it up on CF and got these 2 responses so far:

"looks like snake oil to me."

and

"Remote starter installs are really easy. You don't need to spend any money on T-harnesses IMO. You are pretty much tapping all the wires that are needed. You usually won't need to cut a single wire. You can use the 3M taps also."

Let me know if you want me to reply with anything. Sorry I can't help myself.

Cool thanks. I am retarded when it comes to wires but I looked at the website and they explain it pretty well. I think I'll try it tomorrow. I will let you guys know if my truck explodes.

That's because they are better......;)

Jarrod, talk to Punkrockdrummerx. He is on here and he is the bomb at this. He just sent me my own wiring diagram for an o4 X. I am sure that he could do the same for you . He is a great guy. His first name is Kyle.

I got a wiring diagram from the bulldog site. It seems pretty straight forward,

Also, you need to see if you need the Chip bypass. Can you start your vehicle from a key made at a key shop? Apparently, as far as the X goes, there is no set model or year that had a chip. It is just kind of miscellaneous. Jarrod, you out to check out this thread

http://www.xterraownersclub.com/forums.html

It is still a live thread so, let me know if you need me to ask a question bro!-James

Either way, I would contact Kyle to find out more info. He does it for a living.

Yeah I just had a key made the other day and the dealer said that I don't have the chip.

Nice! That saves you a lot of money right there. I am thinking about doing it myself.....

I'm a professional installer and would caution you against installing a remote starter yourself, especially if you say you're retarded when it comes to electrical. It is pretty complicated and there are LOTS of things that can go wrong. It will cost you more to have an installer fix your job if it doesn't work than it would to install it completely. Also, Bulldog RS's aren't exactly high quality. The industry consensus is anything not made by Audiovox or DEI isn't worth the money, the others just seem to never work right and there's no tech support. Just for giggles, go into a local shop and ask them and they'll respond exactly as I did. Don't mean to burst your bubble, I've jsut seen it go horribly wrong too many times.

I'm an ex-professional installer, and I also think you're making a risky choice. One wrong wire and you can significantly bitch your entire electrical system. Secondly, I would never, ever, ever use any kind of "quick connector" for a remote starter install. There's a decent amount of current running through some of the main system wires, and those Scotchlocs, etc make crappy connections at the absolute best of times. If you insist on trying this yourself, get a high-wattage soldering gun and use it on every wire.

It's your truck, but I recommend that you just suck it up and take it to someone who knows what they're doing. If you want to learn about 12-volt electricals, wire up some driving lights or something instead.
