I've actually kicked around the idea of moving to GJ just because it's 90 minutes from the coolest trails in the world. (And I imagine the cost of living in GJ is much lower than living in Moab itself.)

You may want to weight the cost of gas to the cost of a camp site.

Stop kicking and do it. Maybe check it out on your way to Moab. Really any good camping lakes and fourwheeling is within 30 minutes. Im 3 minutes away from the Grand Junction Desert.

Yeah i know of some really cool spots/dunes to camp at and sand board down. Maybe i could convoy out there when yall come through here. How many people attend this? i know Jeep Safari is just a huge M.I.P. fest.

goneMoab last year was nearly 100 trucks through out the week, some only made it out for 1 or 2 days. Most runs have anywhere from 10-30 trucks on em. So it is not nearly as congested as EJS. Really its a group of guys that all know each other and come back year after year for a good time.
So far in 2 days there are about 20 trucks and 30 some odd people signed up for the entire week.
