View Full Version : GM Style battery connections...

I've got a Red Top in the X right now and I was wondering if anyone had replaced the battery cable terminals with the GM-style screw in connections. My thought here is to replace the cables that attach to the battery with the screw in style for several reasons. One, the get the Red Top to work, you have to bend the positive cable to get it to fit. Two, I'd like to run all my accessories (lights, winch, etc...) off the top posts on the battery and have the stock cables run into the screw in side terminals. I think this would go a long way to me cleaning up the rat's nest that is my engine bay.
Anyone ever attempted this, and what are the thoughts?

I didn't have to bend my positive cable connection to get it to work on a yellowtop, which I think has the same layout as the redtop. In my case, I'm not sure I could use the side terminals at all... there's no room for the stock cables between the battery and the power steering reservoir and stuff on that side.

Yeah no issues connecting to my yellow top. I have some accessories feeding off the side terminals.

I have the Exide Orbital and I had to "massage" the positive connector to make it fit. AKAIK the Orbital and Optima have the same basic setup. I can't get to the side terminals to even put the screws in. I guess if I removed the battery, hooked up the accessories then put the battery back in it might work.

It was a pain in the ass to get the side terminals connected on mine.
