What's the best way to go about getting a body lift for an 2002 Nissan Xterra XE?

Any good brands or anything? Also if I can get good feedback on something, I'll probably be needing a mod day to get this done lol.

Here is the link for your BL:D

http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/shop/index.php3?page=shop/browse&category_id=1f5314eecd2ea37f3c91bddb93e69066&ps_session=bd66b48225a700b69332e415f43c7b17

Order which kit you want and then set up a mod day. If my schedule is clear I would totally be down to help you out with the install.

I've heard people used the lift blocks out of wood, roller blade wheels, etc...so spend the money and get a real BL. That's what I did, and I will be better off doing so.

James did a great write up on Xterrafirma.com on the $65 DIY BL. http://www.xterrafirma.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=5302

Alright, I have a body lift on an Xterra question. Who here used anything other than the pucks and hardware? Anyone? Bueller?

I am not saying use rollerblade wheels (although 2 hockey pucks stacked on top of eachother would work)

I am saying that AC gives you a whole bunch of stuff you don't need and anyone who bought it can attest to it. I guarantee it. It IS a real body lift

yea it is a good lift but they give you a whole bunch of parts that you will never use. also don't use their directions...they will only get you even more confused. if I can find the directions i used I will post them up for you. make sure you spray all your bolts the night before and have an impact gun or some air tools. and you will want 2 or 3 people there to help...trust me it will go a lot faster.

those are the only parts I used as well.

I don't think anyone here is talking about using blocks of wood for a lift. Lift blocks are cheap and easy to get from many 4x4 sites. They're the same blocks that come in the PA kits.

A 2" Xterra lift is some blocks and some bolts, right? So the important question I think is what special bolts do you need, and what's a good source for them?

Aha, I notice the details are available on the xterrafirma forum, I'll post them here too:

(6) 3/8" nylock locking nuts
(6) 3/8" washers
(8) 1/2" washers
(2) 12mm x 180mm x 1.25" bolts (rear of truck by bumper going up)
(2) 10mm x 160mm x 1.25" bolts (2nd to last body mount toward the rear bumper)
(6) 6" x 7/16-14 bolts (the other 6 body mounts of the truck)

The long metric bolts will be the hard ones to find. I'm gonna check whether I can order some through Grainger while I still have access. I can order a 25-pack of each and just have them on hand for folks wanting to do this lift.

Oh, it's probably worth mentioning that body lift bolts are typically grade 5 for the SAE sizes, and grade 8.8 for the metric sizes.

Thank you, I wrote some really good directions on this, search in th DIY section.

Ask any X driver and they will tell you the same.

ya thats what i did..i pieced mine together for like $100 but that was before there were so many metric companies out there... Its way better than getting the kit and getting all of the trash they throw in there.

If anyone is making their own, I have a whole bunch of the bolts that thread into the body. You can't buy them at a hardware store or anything because they have a funky thread pitch. They cost me something like $3 each so you can have them for that. You can buy UHMW lift pucks online for $5 each or jsut buy a length of UHMW round stock for $20.

You have these?

(2) 12mm x 180mm x 1.25" bolts (rear of truck by bumper going up)
(2) 10mm x 160mm x 1.25" bolts (2nd to last body mount toward the rear bumper)

Where did you get them? I've been looking on the net for a week, and I've got a sourcing specialist at Grainger looking for them for me, and haven't come up with a source yet.

Ummmm... James.... not to put too fine a point on it, but it appears that none of those places have the bolts I referred to in my message. One of the sites has the 7/16 bolts, but then, so does any hardware store. The long fine-pitch metrics are not listed at the other two sites you posted.

Oh, crap! Well just ignore the last two sites then. Those were recommended on another site, but you are right, those 7/17" are cake to find.

As far as the metrics, call that number. They have them there. For some reason, they are not on the internet inventory, but they ARE in stock. You just have to call.

Nice thanks :P I was planning on lifting the Xterra this weekend but I'm probably going to wait a week or two because I'm getting a new job. Once that gets situated and things are situated with school too, then I'll get to modding.

Thanks a lot for the advice in this thread, it'll help out a lot.
After I get this lift down.. then it's time to move up to some TIRES.
