...so when I read the thread about Lefthand a few days ago, I though it was Saturday and not Sunday; so Tom and I set up a run for Sunday at Cascade Creek.
Details (from http://thenewx.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8833):
"
Jollyman and I are throwing together a last minute run up on the Cascade Creek Trail this Sunday (3/9). Find the link to the trail info below if you are not sure about the run and want more info.
We will be meeting at the McDonalds just off of I-70 in Idaho Springs at 10am (you can see the McD's from the interstate so its easy to find). If you are going to meet us there send a PM to either of us so we know if we need to wait a few minutes if you are not there... Please include some sort of mobile contact info to reach you at that morning. The trail should be a blast with some snow and fun play spots. There are lots of options to take and extend the day if we want but you will see on the map at traildamage's linked page below.

Hope to see you there...

Neither of us have been, but it sounds like fun!
What are you all running? Will I be able to keep up in a stock '05 OR? Though trail looks pretty easy - rated 2/10.
Sounds like a lot of fun, will check my schedule and PM you tonight.

Tom is in a stock +shrock sliders OR and I'm in a slightly lifted with sliders OR.
Niether of us have been up there; but as you said the review makes it seam not so bad... guess we will see :)
Ok. Count me in. My friend Joel wants to come too (if that's ok with everybody). He's running stock first-gen X and never been off-roading (much like me).
Weather's supposed to be crap tomorrow. Too bad we're not doing it today.
Anyone has a winch? Snow gets pretty deep up there according to reviews.
Tim.
Still 10am at McD's?
P.S. I'm bringin my walkie-talkie and will be on channel 3-9...

Tim, great to have you and Joel join! Yup, the plan is still 10am at McD's... Tom has a silver gen2 X, OR with gray shrock sliders and Thule ski racks on the top. Mine is a night armor (though a lil muddy) gen2 X, OR with black shrock sliders and Yak ski racks on top.
We both have hi-lifts, straps and tools... if someone gets stuck, we should be able to pull 'em out. I have a radio (and I think Tom does as well); I'll set it to 3-9 when I start getting close to Idaho Springs.
I've PM'd you my cell number, I may be running a few min late depending how soon I can get out in the morning.
For everyone else; I may not have internet tonight (having issues with the provider) so if you want to come, post on thenewx.org thread or just join us! If I can't get the net working tonight, I'll try to hit a coffee shop early in the morning to send out any updates.
BTW, my name is Jason

If anybody does get stuck up there today, just give a call, , I've got a winch and probably half the folks who'll be here today have one too... we'll mount a recovery expedition. :) Cascade Creek trailhead is only 40 minutes from my house. There's usually pretty good cell coverage up there, iirc.

The number is going in my phone NOW, thx!
...I'm sitting at the McD's, waiting for people to come. It took me WAY less time to get up here then I thought.
So to keep entertained... gotta love work's broadband card!

How'd it go? Was it open?

It was open, but we didn't get really far. There are a few houses up that way and the road was "plowed" up to them. Past that, it was 2+feel of snow.
We ran up Ute Creek too; same story.
The run was fun, but it was a bit scary from the get go; sliding backwards down the hill... or worse, the guy in front of you sliding backwards down in front of you!
I'll have my pics up tomorrow. Tom has some good ones of us playing in a puddle :)
All and all, a good day!

Sweet pics that is such a pretty area. My GF ran a call on a flipped pathy and thought it may have been someone in your group. They ended up driving away before the Ambulance arrived so I quess everyone ended up ok!

Oh I thought you had shrock types. I guess I'm not too observant. And yea Jeff, any kind of sliders would be great right now.
And like Ian said...they don't have to be pretty if they are strong enough to protect you. And plus...any sliders I get I would just spray paint flat black.

You don't need sliders for trails like China Wall or Cascade Creek. For Cascade Creek (when it's dry) you barely need 4wd. (Although there is a real fun 3/4 mile spur road that starts a mile or so up cascade creek road and climbs straight up the side of the mountain. Totally optional, but at a couple spots it has challenging lines.)

I want sliders for old chinamans gulch in case we do a get together run there. And even if I wheel out here at Buckley, it'd be nice to have them for protection and peace of mind.

No wrecks... thank GOD!
Though sliding backward down that first road was pretty scary.
