This is my next project.

WalMart has the Hella 500 lights for like $65 per pair.

I'm thinking 4 of those, and a light bar from 4x4 parts. Or I could fab one up if I had the proper tools (I miss my dads workshop a lot).

Anyway it will probably be sometime next month or May before I do this, but I want to get some questions out of the way.

I know that 4x4 Parts has a bunch of different lights. The PIAA are expensive as hell and I don't know that they are really worth that.

Any advantage to going flood over just a driving light like the Hella 500?

Also for replacement headlights - any recommendations for something better than the stock stuff? I know sylvania makes those silverstars but I thought I had heard bad things about them.

(Waiting for silicone sealant to cure is annoying by the way :P)

I had Silverstar headlights and they lasted about 2 years. They burned out a week apart from each other. They were OK, all they really did was give off a more white/blue light, not much better visibility.

I had a similar but shorter experience like bogof's. They put out a much whiter light over a standard halogen which looked nice. Mine burned out within a week of each other, but only after 6 or 7 months of use. I generally drive with my headlights on even in the daylight though.

I have some off brand blue lights...not better visibility at all. I have some fog lights that I can turn on if I need it though.
