Ok so i have my 5.14 gears for the rear not installed and my 5.13 fronts installed already. My problem is money.lol. I didnt buy the rear gears install kit bc when i was buying them i just relized then that the install kit is around 300 bux....I was planing on installing them myself and have 2 questions. Is it possible to reuse the items inside the third now? and is installing gears in an h233b axle anything like installing toyota or dana 44 gears? If not should i try to find a new third with 4.9s in em already? and just redue the front gears to match with locker? Or is it worth me spending another 300 dollars on an install kit and another 300 plus on getting them installed?
Any one know what i should do? I have a huge truck now that is capable of nothing bc im stuck in 2wd...lol
Thanks for any help
Max

how much does it cost for allen to do it? and can he do it reusing the the shims seals and bearings? Or would i have to purchas the install kit? Also what all comes in the install kit? is there parts in it i can get from autozone or napa?
Thanks for all your help.

Max, go with the install kit, it's complete and you're not going to possibly be missing pieces or wait for them to come into the AutoZone/Napa.
And to find a 3rd with 4.90s and then buy a new set of gears for the D44, a new install kit for the D44, and then pay someone to set up your front end. And then try to sell your 5.13s that are already installed on the front (you might sit on those for a while). Selling the gears you bought for the rear, assuming they're still in the box, should be easy-ish.

For all the trouble you're going to go through to go to a 4.90/4.88 setup you will probably be better off to just buy the install kit and pay to get 'em installed.

As for what Al charges to do gears, you'd have to ask him

Yep I would just bite the bullet... or ask around N4W and NOR.

Nothing on Ebay.

I'd do the install for $300, and I should be able to reuse the bearings and such. Just let me get everything straight in my head... (shut up you-ins!)... You're putting the 5:whatevers into the H233B, correct? If so, then it's not an issue. I have a special tool available that will allow me to reuse the bearings. That would save you some cash. But if you want, an install kit wouldn't hurt either. Any way you want.

But the 3rd would have to be out of the truck, dropping the 3rd off to me and picking it up after I'm done.
