Anyone been up Medano Pass lately? I'm thinking about heading up on Sunday (6/15) but wasn't sure what the trail conditions were.

I just got back yesterday from a 4 day long camping trip at Medano Pass. The trail was awesome and easily passable, there were several new mudpits from all the runoff and the rivers are deeper. The deepest they ever got was right around 35 inches, just make sure you take them slowly and it's fine. It was incredibly hot up there and I never saw a hint of snow. Also make sure you're ready for some wind, the trail was extremely windy on some days, enough to completely buckle our tent, and also if you plan to go to the dunes make sure you bring bug spray, the dunes were filled with mosquito-like bugs even at mid-day!

Sounds like a fun trip.... Medano is very different scenery than other trails in Co. I like to run it East to West Pine forests then you drop into the Dunes... amazing.

Thanks for the info Mistician. I didn't make it up there over the weekend. Ended up playing around in some of the canyons just outside Canon City. Got on a couple of trails that I wasn't sure about and ended up turning around since I was solo. Had fun just 'exploring' though.

Well at least you were able to get some wheeling in Dan ;), and let me know how your trip goes Chris, we lost an explorer on the drive back home. The shop told us it's alternator had been submerged in one of the deep mud puddles and so it gave out at Fort Carson on the way back to Littleton.

How bad is the trail in the National Monument? I know that they advise 4wd. But, is it necessary? I was up there on 6/28 in my 2wd Suburban.

FYI, It's a National Park now, designation changed a few years ago. I'm going down tomorrow, I'll have an update...
