I almost posted it under general ,I didnt want to get my naughty hand slapped, so I posted it here. I dont know if anyone can awnser this but does anyone know anything about the diesiel engine TD-27turbo. Nissan made them they were in the Tereno over in Japan I ran across a few and am trying to find links or info about the motor and what I would need to do to stick it in my truck. Im still considering the 33swap, but I also tow alot and the 30 is gutless (not to say I Dont love its reliability) but towing 3 jetskis the 30 has its limits.thanks.:)

Here's my 2 cents.
I don't know a thing about the diesel. I spent a grip on a JDM style stock 3.0 engine, #2 NISMO cams, Thorley headers, and new exhaust. For the dough I put out I didn't see much extra HP at all. I don't want to say it was a waste, because I needed a new motor anyway. However, if I could start over I would spend the extra $ and go with the 3.3. Ideally the 3.3\3.0 hybrid & completely rebuild- bore it, port&polish, cams, exhuast; the whole shabang.
If you are handy enough to deal with fudging little adjustments for a different motor and you can spare the $ I bet a 3.3 with all the basic mods, or the 3.3 top on a 3.0 block would give you decent results for towing and general power. GL
BTW I have an extra vg30 block.

At one point i did see a td 27 on e-bay in florida. I want one as well but i know little about how it would bolt up. Diesels are strong enviro friendly engines which last for very long. If you find any good info on it let us know please... Also another way to gain torque is to go down in tire size or re-gear your axles...

you won't be able to get a td27 to pass emissions, from what i understand.
go to nissan4wheelers.com and search. there are a ton of threads dealing with the td27 and other nissan diesels

I really dont have to worry about emissions I live in Weld county, there isnt any emissions here. My nieghbor is a master diesel tech for Brannan construction. He can fabricate just about anything. I can find the engines but do they bolt to our transmissions? the shady pictures I have seen tells me that I may need to also buy a transmission, also there is a guy on 4X4parts. that had one maybe I will hit him up. Dont worry I will keep you updated.Hey earth1 where did you get the thorley headers. I only seem to find the pacesetters. The 3.3s are pretty easy to find and cheap, use ebay craigslist or one of the engine company's. I have seen them down into the $400 range. I scored some VQ45 pistons out of an infinity awhile back from one of the local pick and pull junk yards, putting them in the 33 is the way to go from what I have already researched.

I got my Thorleys from Summit. Those guys are the $h!t. Great customer service in my experience.
Those infinity pistons do sound like the way to go, but you might need to do a little machining on the top for clearance IIRC.
Wow I wish I had found a 3.3 for $400. Next time...
I didn't realize emission requirements weren't statewide.

Don't overate the 3.3l. The 3.0l put out way more horsepower than the 3.3l ever did. Turbo 3.0l 300hp... SC 3.3l 210hp. The Nissan Performance Mag engine uses a 3.0l crank, rods, and flywheel. There are after market pistons for the 3.0l that are good up to 1200hp! The neatest mod I have seen, as of late, installs a turbo out of a cummins on a 3.0l from a 88-89 turbo 300z! I guess it is a fairly good fit!!!
Don't plan on the auto trannys holding up to a modified engine... have to go manual!

Ryan the only problem with the 3.0 your talking about doesnt fit in our rigs. the VG30DETT is sick but it will not clear the frame rails, and as far as aftermarket pistons go your looking anywhere from $700-$1000 in piston cost without rods. The 3.3 is more cost effective.I do agree with you on the 3.0 being a solid horsepower motor it just gets expensive. The VQ45 pistons are the way to go in the 3.3. Earth1 I searched summit awile back and found Thorley I didnt find the listing for the pathy? I will call thankyou. good luck on your 3.3.

The 3.3L needs bored, VG30DETT rods and get the piston machined/balanced for the correct head style. For you an ASE certified tech... maybe the is the way to go.
I was using those pistons as an example of what is available for the vg30 and not the vg33. There may not be a use for them in our application.
The vg30det from the 88-89 fits perfectly in our rigs without a machining. Who knows how much power would come out with a turbo out of a cummins on it.
The best bang for the buck will be the L&P supercharger.. for about $1200 out comes 280-320 HP from your 200k engine. If a person wants to push it further... oh that would be the pistons etc that are out there for it!

The old school turbo engine fits in our rigs? or the non turbo? The L&P supercharger is sick. I lost the link then found it here. the eaton m90 compressors are solid. I also saw that VQ45 at pull and save half the front end was gone. I got my pistons out of a 93' at Colorado auto salvage. Iwill have to look into the old Z engine. my body man wants to modify my frame rails to except the VG30DETT. ever since my AIV rusted out I have been considering that option to.

Make sure the engine was made after April 1987. They are called the W series block. Floating piston wrist pins, more cooling ports in the head/block, etc. I wonder how close the frame rails get on the dett? I have seen a pic of a DETT in a pathy... forgot where it was.
The 87-89 turbo fits apparently. The only thing I can think would be a problem is that fact they don't have an intercooler.

I saw a datsun 2wd with the DETT in it when I was researching. I may have to go with the turbo motor now. Ryan do you know if I have to swap oil pans and oil pump to go into yhe 4wd? that engine should bolt up with my bell housing correct? The intercooler is not a problem I will fabricte that. what about computor and harness, let me know if you have any links. thanks
Tmorgan, the VQ setup is the way to go it sounds like people have done it but no real info.
