I was inspired by a guys from newx installation and decided to this myself. First you need to remove the center trim piece, directions for doing that can found here (http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=952). I decided to go with the Alpine CDA-9884 (http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=CDA-9884), I chose this unit mostly because of the highly recommend iPod interface. For the CB I, like k1w1t1m, I went with the Cobra 18 WX ST II (http://www.cobra.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=313&category_ID=30) as it is a DIN unit and the length of the unit works out as well

I disconnected the center trim from the wires leading to the climate control to have more working space.

The room is tight once everything gets put back so I trimmed the wire harness (only on the HU portion, I left the X’s wire’s as is. Here’s the pre trimmed harness

Fallow the direction for wiring the CB and you’ll be fine. I ran the power wires for the CB through seal for the driver’s side wire group.

I sealed everything up with a bunch of silicon, made the connections and I had power.

The coax cable was run though the underneath the trim

under the floor carpet in the back seat then behind the plastic in the cargo area

Then after removing the trim I fed the coax to the grommet on the driver’s side of the back door

There was a sleeve over the HU that I removed to give me access to holes that the screws would go into, I used the factory mounting bracket that only required minimal modification, we’ll go over that later.

Using the existing holes in the brackets you end up with this

The CB ended up about 7/8” recessed from the stereo. Time to take everything apart.

Measuring 7/8” towards the driver from the back lower hole (it’ll make scene once you can look at yours, I forgot to photograph it) Drill a hole to pace your mounting screw through. Mount your brackets to a piece of wood so that if the bracket were to spin while drilling you wont cut you hands

Reattach everything and it will look like this

Much cleaner!

Another thing to note is that there will be a gap between the stereo and the CB. I filled the gap with 1/2” weather-stripping. You can kind of see it here

I mounted my antenna to my roof rack using the Foutrecks (http://www.fourtreks.com/modular_horizontal_tab.html) mount. I bought the unit for the 2005 Xterra, however once tight the clamp would still rotate. I bought some thin pieces of stainless steel and cut 2 pieces to fit on each side of the clamps

With the shims installed and the screw tightened the mount was secured.

I used a stud and fold over mount (http://www.walcottcb.com/antenna-fold-over-adapter-203ez-p-262.html) and a 3’ Firestick Firefly antenna.

Hope this helps

Thanks :D

I was looking at the mount on the Four Trek's site and it looks like the mount is meant for a vertical tube...what'd you do to get around that?

ETA:never mind...found it :D (http://fourtreks.com/modular_horizontal_tab.html)

I am anything but electrically savvy, follow the directions and check the resources available on the web and you get all the info you need. Also remember to disconnect your battery prior to do this.

How long did this take to finish and how much did it cost?
