what yall think? superpackin seems quick cheap and effective. also seems like you COULD save your shafts b/c the superpacked WILL eventually slip(before breakin shafts) Vs. a locker which wont. right now im down for superpackin it FOR THE TIME BEING till i SAS. just want some opinions with reasons why or why not to do either.
$100 for a superpacked LSD or $1500 for an ARB......You decide!

All in all YOU decide as it's your vehicle.
I personally voted ARB because it's going to be much more efficient on the trails. From what I heard, it's night and day between the superpacked or regular LSD's and lockers.
But overall it is your choice. You could spend the 100$ for the LSD now and save up for the arb later. But in the end you will find you spent more than just going with the ARB.

You didn't give enough info...
BUT...if you're going to keep your rear axle, then go with the ARB. Several reasons here:
1) Selectable lockers beat any other axle-based traction device, hands down.
2) You're not likely going to bust axle shafts, and if you get to that point, unlock it.
3) Saves tires when not wheeling.
4) Saves cash during the SAS (because crap always pops up that you a) weren't expecting or b) forgot to add into the costs) vs spending $2,200 of your SAS budget on front and rear ARBs, plus compressor at the time of the SAS.
5) Did I mention that you can unlock it...cuz that's bad ass :D
If you aren't keeping your rear axle, then go with the superpack.

I've been driving a superpacked lsd for about 6 months now. One thing I'll say right off the bat: budget tires into that lsd versus locker equation.
My truck isn't a DD, I drive it only to trails and the occasional junkyard. So it gets maybe 100 miles a week. In April when I put the superpacked lsd under it, my rear tires had about 80% tread on them. Now they're almost slicks, I'll get maybe one more wheeling trip out of them.
So, figure a couple pairs of rear tires a year into the cost if you wheel/drive a lot. Maybe if you drive with a lighter foot than I do (and on less-twisty mountain roads) you could get that down to 1 new pair a year. That's still a lot of money on tires.
I think the thing about breaking a superpacked lsd loose before breaking a shaft is probably not valid. If you get those clutch packs to spin while they're under that much pressure it's going to generate so much heat that they'll weld themselves together and/or break clutch disks, it'll likely be about as catastrophic as breaking a shaft.

Tyler i will not be using my axle when i SAS. im either going with a 9", D60 or a 14 bolt.
My vehicle is the same as yours hippy except im more like 50 miles a week if that. it is only a to and from trails/meet and greets. my white pathy i had for a year and put about 3000 miles on it including 1 trail run 300+ miles away. the benefits of a take home work truck
being able to turn them on and off is pretty sweet but i just cant see the sence in spending all that money esp when i wont have the axle in a year or so. also with the trails out east a locker isnt nearly as important as where you guys wheel. my "stock" LSD with the 34's and 4.6 gears got me thru some black/red trails in Rausch creek with minimal problems. one time i said damn i wish i had a locker(as i bounced off a tree) BUT i think superpacking the LSD would have made that obstacle just as easy as if i had an ARB.
its just the rediculous expensive thing thats got me all f-ed up. i figure TRY superpacking first and if it didnt do what you were expecting/wanting THEN spend the $$ on an ARB. also sucks that ARB is your only option for the nissan LSD.

Go for it if you won't need the axle later. You obviously won't wheel/drive on it a huge amount. So go for the cheap fix now and when you get your permanent axle do the ARB. :)

apples and oranges buddy. Maybe you could compare a spool to a selectable. Your still going to have to purchase the lsd for the 9", dana 60, or 14 bolt. A selectable is by all means the way to go for soo many reasons. If you trailered it and never drove it in ice or snow on the road i'd say lincoln lock it or spool it. I can't emphasize the value of a selectable enough. Have you ever tried turning a corner with a locked rear end?

If you're only going to be using the current axle for a year, then by all means go superpacked, because that takes the long-term cost of tire replacement out of the equation.

Good god, I couldn't agree more...why even ask the question if you're only holding onto the axle for a year?
