Hi my name is Isaac Balboa and I am from Colorado Springs. I bought a 2006 Nissan Xterra about a month ago. I really enjoy the vehicle and plan to keep it till the wheels fall off. Since receiving the vehicle I have when to China Walls and als done some simple stuff off of Rampart Range road in Woodland Park. I am getting ready to deploy for six months so I will have some time and extra money to put part on my Xterra.

I am looking at rock sliders and skidplates from shrockworks, and a 3 inch lift from Calmini. I am looking at the BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO when it comes to tires. Last but not least the Shrockwork winch bumper. My wife has to bit off on that one.

If anyone has any suggestions on different parts or tires please let me know. I have heard about the wait time when buying parts from Shrockworks. I don't see it being an issue with me because all the parts will sit and wait for me to return from my deployment to be installed anyways.

Looking forward to hearing from you all and possibly doing some wheeling when I get back.

Isaac

Hi, welcome to the site. There'll be a chorus of "post some pictures" so I guess I'll be the first.

As to the mods you've got planned, I would advise that you look into the 3" lift kit from AC (4x4parts.com) before sending any money to calmini. Calmini has on-again off-again customer service problems, and it almost always takes them 3x as long to ship something as they say when you're ordering.

The other thing you absolutely MUST budget for is a steering upgrade. When you put a suspension lift and bigger/heavier tires on the front it stresses the stock steering so much that it WILL break, probably at a really bad time, like on the hardest section of some trail.

The minimum steering upgrade is a stronger centerlink, about $230 from grassroots4x4.com (there's a $100 core charge you'll get back when you send in the old one). Another good upgrade to have is stronger tie rod adjusters. 4x4parts has those.

A 2006, that makes it a Next Generation Rig!!! Sweet, can't wait to see it.

Doh! As Ryan pointed out, it's a 2nd-gen X, I missed that. That invalidates most of what I said, the AC suspension lift and steering upgrades are first-gen things.

It was the first trail i actually drove thought. I only had to have a friend spot me once. I did most of the trail in 2 wheel drive. At the trail head there is two different ways to start but both end up in the same spot. The left fork (the loop) is a little bit easier to do. The Right fork is a little more difficult. I headed out that way but didn’t take that route up the hill. There is a mud hole close to the end of the trail near the camp sites that I would avoid(there is a way around it). I have seen it swallow a truck! Overall it’s a pretty nice trail and not to hard for anyone to complete.
