well after running thru the deep water last weekend at dry river my starter has been pissed off at me. the wire from the ignition to the starter solenoid fell off but i fixed it and reattached it. truck started ok for a couple days after that but then started acting up again. i got to do the signature beat the shit outta the starter with a BFH to get the damn thing to turn over. fortunately i have a spare pretty much new starter/solenoid.
my question is do i need to replace the solenoid, starter, or both?
Thanks

did your starter get water in it?...i once packed a starter full
of mud because the inspection plate was off.....
i just pulled it washed it out let it dry.lightly sanded it,
put it back and i was good to go....:twocents:

Stick or Auto? Sure it's not the relay on the passenger's side fender by the battery? That tends to be more common than a starter.

AUTO. i havent checked that relay but if it doesnt start, ill hit the solenoid a couple times with a hammer and it fires right up. been doing that for a couple days now. never had a problem untill i ran thru some deep water as well as getting stuck in a 3' deep mud hole last weekend. didnt get water far enough into the engine bay to affect that relay or even the alternator so i was assuming it was the starter. ill change that relay tomorrow before i do the starter becuse last time i did a starter(in my white pathy) it was a real PITA!!!!. gotta get the starter off my white pathy anyway and im NOT looking foward to that though now i CAN destroy/break shit thats in my way :)
