Its part of Golden spike. But that is for wednesday. I need to leave early wednesday morning. My kids graduate Thursday. Thursday is the last day of the year.

I just want to hit the crack part. Is that possible?

My co worker Jim is going with Me. He has a Jeep but will ride with me for the long trip. Hes very active in our Nissan club;) . He makes more events than any other member. Plus some jeep club events. I am going to join the local jeep club just for the hell of it.:rainfro:

It may be easier to get to it run the Gold Bar Rim Side, but you should do the whole trail.

Small groups with no breakage or accidents can get through in say 6 hours. It's taken a couple groups twice that long given breakage, roll over, weather.

SCCX ran it backwards last year. You could head up from Gold Bar, double cross the Golden Crack and exit Gold Bar Rim.

Ten vehicles makes a good size without being too large.

Just remember, 30mph is to fast when crossing the crack!

I hope no one gets a "strap across the crack" this time. :)

No its not. Its about mid way through the trail. If you do the trail forward then it will be the first major obsticle. Followed soon after the stairs, body snatcher and the wall. If you run it backwards I heard it is easier and oviously the crack will be last. Its a blast but I'm not sure if I'll be doing it this year. I have to see what happens with my attendance and if I have gears by then.

OK Thanks. I was un sure how the access is out there. I assumed the it was in an open area you could drive straight too.

I made it to the crack over Thanksgiving, but did not attempt the crack. Went in from the Gemini Bridges area, over I think Golden Spike. Made it to the crack and turned around due to darkness coming very quickly.

Great ride up untill then, but I honestly don't know if my currently set-up X would be able to make it over the crack (or more accurately the dumbass behind the wheel).

The crack is littered with carnage from past attempts - shards of metal, oil everywhere, glass (ouch)... It was a tough enough obstacle that I was rebuffed.

On a side note, while we were up there surveying the crack a group of mainly Jeeps, with a few totally custom rides, were up in the area "playing around" - going just about anywhere they wanted. I was amazed to see what some of these rigs could do, but I also thought "this is a tough trail and still not challenging enough for these guys". I came to think that even though I didn't do the crack I was still a better wheeler than some of these guys - at least I stay on the trail, and made it through with something that has no lockers and cost like $25,000 less than the cheapest rig I saw. I was joking with one of them along the lines of "Hey, you guys like being on 3 wheels so much, why don't you try to drive an X thorugh this - I was on three wheels since I started the trail." Just an observation.

Attached is a moderate map, but it notes the location of the crack. Most of the real fun is typically beyond the Golden Crack. So if you run the trail from Gold Bar Rim, to the crack, turn around and go back, it should be shorter (maybe).

You still have the long drive in towards and past Gemini Bridges Trail. I have done much of the trail up to the ledge on Gold Bar Rim myself years ago. If you got going early, you might get to the Crack before more people coming from Poison Sprider. It is a real pain to try to have groups crossing in certain areas, but mostly doable.

GPS - You don't need GPS, its hard to miss any of the trail. Unless you are finishing Gold Bar Rim after dark. Unfortunately, I have been on the trail a couple times after dark. Wayfinding is easy in the daylight, tough when you can't see tire tracks.
