Evening

So this Pathfinder I'm looking to buy is in excellent shape with the only problem being it's got an AC leak somewhere. Not a big deal to me really. But it got me thinking. I HATE the location of the Alternators on these engines since they sit so damn low. I know you guys in the Rocks don't care too much but here I see a Lot of mud and water. I was wondering if anyone on here Has tried making a brace to fit the Alternator to the AC location.

Actually... that being said, If I was to go thru all the Pain and trouble to fab up a brace, is it possible to find a very high output Alternator of any make or model vehicle, and just change out the plugs for a Pathy one with a little Solder action?

If the second question is complete nonsense feel free to say so.

Quest vans have 110amps, the maxima's have 90amps. Quest needs some fabbing, the maxima is a direct bolt-on.

Get a bracket and tensioner setup off an R50 Pathfinder. The AC and PS pumps are opposite locations from the Xterras and WD21s.

im gonna be adding a 2nd alternator in the AC compressor location after the 1st of the year. ill do a writeup and take some pics for you. doesnt seem that hard and not much modding.

im doing this to run a dedicated circuit to all my accessories(winch, power invertor, aux lights, etc) so i will have 2 12V circuits with 2 batteries.

also im just running maxima alternators(cheaper than the pathy alt....go figure). 2 90A circuits will work for me. all you gotta do is switch the pulley from the pathy alt to the maxima alt and its a direct bolt-on.

Depends on the area Rich, when I went alternator hunting all the maxima ones I found were about the same price as the most expensive pathfinder one.

Nissan nut has a buddy who ran two alternators on his r50. IIRC he posted a write up somewhere.

That write up would be great Pathmaker1. and tmorgan4 thanks. I'll look into that.

I wonder how hard it will be to run all the AC lines down where the Alternator sits now. Be nice to still have AC if a guy still wanted it.

I wouldn't think it would be that hard to run the lines, but replacing the AC compressor when ya go through mud/muck/water would suck.

I mounted a trail gear powersteering pump on the old nissan AC bracket. The High pressure Line is now 8" long instead of four feet. A York AC is now taking up the space once occupied by my nissan PS pump. The swap wasn't that difficult and I assume one could easily mount the alternator where the stock PS pump is mounted.

Why is that bill the accessories I mentioned are located in similar areas. Is this a private post was I intruding? I'm confused

Sorry...it's a bad joke...but you have more room under your hood....or you did before the airplane front end.

and what you did would require more work with a v-6

you can get barrier hose from arizona ac (ac kits.com) you can send them your aluminum ports that bolt to the compressor and they will lengthen them for you. i have done it twice for other vehicles ,they do good work.

now only a couple year maxima alt will work....or i mean are 90A and will work. it was $40 cheaper here in VA for the maxima alternator. got a writeup here somewhere on that with the specific year maxima you will need.

did he run them in series or 2 different circuits? any link on that thread?

Nissannut (Barry) is the one to ask. Try sending him a pm I'm sure he will respond with the link. Check out his site sometime. It is impressive and has a ton of info.

Thanks Ben. I am just about to install another Quest alt, this time in my pathy. I already have the alt and parts. Just need to weld up the bracket.

Here is my page on it.

Its a great idea to move the alt up higher.

But I dont think I want my AC down that low. Alts are much cheaper.

Keith (Vg33) mounted a cheap GM alt on a custom bracket above the stock one on the right side. Its used as a welder and as a backup alt. He has 3 batteries. Plus he has a York Air compressor and stock AC.

My alt light flashed today. I need to swap mine soon.

Here is the latest setup that works really well. Sand down the ridge and DO NOT put a space BEHIND V pulley. Put in under Nut.

Note, no ridge.
