I was just wondering if anyone knew if the 89 pathys had ABS? There is a slot under my emissions saying "ABS: Y"? The one before that is "DRV: X" and then after the ABS is "2STK: N". I didn't think it had ABS? Or are they just high on the fumes in there?

mine did, not sure when they started it though (mine is a 94). it is only on the rear brakes, and nothing like the newer pulsing systems. it is meant to keep the rear end from sliding around into the front. I locked up all 4 31" muds when everything was still stock on a dry road, so i don't think it really does (did) much.

Yeah my 91 Hardbody had rear abs only but it didn't do squat.
The ABS on my 04 X does pretty well. But then you're working with disc brakes up front. Keeps it from sliding too much on the streets. Engages for a second from time to time going down a big hill when offroading. Annoying then only because it really isn't needed.

I'm not sure but I don't think an 89 has abs. The computer is mounted under the radio above the heater vents. if there is nothing below the radio you don't have it.

Thanks Bill, nothing but my clinometer under my radio ;)
I can lock up all 4 on dry roads, and have the entire thing sliding like no tomorrow on ice :D

Everything from '77 has disc brakes up front for passenger vehicles. If the Pathy has it, chances are it only has it in the rear. Might have 4 wheel ABS, but unlikely.
Look beside the master cylinder. If you see the brake lines going into another distribution block, that's fairly large, then you have ABS.
Also, when you turn the key on, engine still off, the ABS light should light up for a bulb check. If you don't have that light, still look under the hood. You could just have a burnt out bulb.

my ABS light never goes off, so that must be a really good bulb check right?

Lol, never had a bulb check for ABS. Only the "BRAKE" and that's with the E-brake.
