View Full Version : Lodging for Moab?

Okay so what's going on with condos, etc.?

I need to figure out all the financial details - gas, lodging, food, extra cash in case of breakage, etc.

So I need to figure out if I can afford everything - shouldn't be an issue but it would really help my planning if I knew what lodging is going to run. I've thought about camping as well but I dunno.

I've got a decent air mattress - I figure I can just plop that down wherever to sleep.

$100 puts you at Slickrock campground for the week. I would love to stay at the condos but for a bed it was going to be about $400 last year and I just can't justify that. Of coarse last year I did spend nearly evening at the Condo, then went back and slept in my tent. :)

What are the night temps there like at that time of year?

Depends, been there when sleeping naked is a good choice and when my cheap sleeping bags were not enough. A good sleeping bag (0* should work) is more then enough to keep you warm.

Yeah I have a good 0° but the air mattress is not so good for colder temps. Lot better for my back than a pad on the ground though.

Been out in desert before where it's 110° during the day and below freezing at night. My Uncle lived out in that weather.

I use an air mattress and have never had an issue. But yeah its sort of like what you said, it will be hot in the day then cold at night.

I'm planning to get a cabin at the campground I think. Decently cheap and better than sleeping on the ground.

Anybody staying into the long weekend? I've been thinking about it since I can't be there for the whole GONE week and was wondering if anybody else was considering it.

I think I'm going to the same campground as two years ago. I use an Army style cot to sleep on. If its to hot you just don't put the sleeping bag under you. If it's to cold sleep like it's a regular sleeping bag. I's worked fine for me every time I go camping.

I also have a bad back, and the cot seems to be the best thing for me when I camp. Plus you don't have to worry about it deflating or popping.

I have a cot and I like the air mattress better. I tend to shift a lot while sleeping so what ends up happening is the cot collapsing in the middle of the night.

If you use the air mattress, just put a blanket or thermarest/sleeping pad on top. This will insulate you from the cold air in the mattress. I uuse an air mattress in my tent, and I bought a cheep walmart flanel sleeping bag to put between me and the mattress. Never been cold. (but then I also have some extra "padding" on me to help keep me warm as well)

I'm not sure what cot your using, but this is what I have.

If setup right there is no way for it to collapse. It also stretches tight so it is really supportive.

Yeah I toss a blanket over it but the cold air can still seep through.

I tried one of those cots - pain in the ass to put together and it was not comfortable for me. The one I have is like this:

In moab, I've stayed in my truck, in hotels, and in campgrounds.

I think the hotel and the campground are both decent. I don't remember the campground being that much cheaper than the hotel. Depends on rates when you call.
