I need some advise. I had to stop at an accident tonight and doing so my battery lost some juice. Had to get a jump. Got to the Firehouse tonight but it was not long enough of a drive so it would not start. Thinking i was smart i put it on the bat charger we have here and it read in the green. just to be sure i charged it for about an hour. Put it back in the rig. interior lights turned on. I tried to lock the doors to run back in and grab a jacket and all the int light blinked for about 10 sec and now the car is black. No power nothing. Anyone have any ideas. I am stuck here in bfe if i can not get this worked out by tommorow. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Try changing the belt that runs across the alternator, I had to do that on my old Nissan pickup, or pull the alternator and have a bench test ran on it.

Do a jump start, get home, and get that battery replaced.

Thx Sully for the advise. When it is light out i am going to try that. What sucks is the battary is only 18mos old. It is a house brand from Advance. good time to upgrade. Could i have blown any fuses??

Check your ground wires as well.

Funny you should mention that. The ground clamp tightend as much as i can is still a bit loose. Got it to start by playing around with it. gonna have to do a bit of pm to keep her running.

Sounds like the Teminal clamp is a bit worn out. if you can find a strip of copper to wrap around the negative side of the battery it will get you by for a while, this will improve the contact between the battery and the cable. But Idealy that clamp will need to be replaced.

Good idea. The clamp is orginal, the battery terminal is much more narrow than the stock one i had.

They also make battery terminal shims...little lead hoods that fit over the battery terminals, I had to use those on my original battery before I swapped it out for an aftermarket.

avoid the battery cushions that go under the terminals the parts stores love to sell them to you.they hold corrosion at the terminals and don't allow the terminals to seat at the base. the auto stores will test the battery for free also and I would replace the terminals first, like the other guys said.

I had that problem too, I had to hit the neg terminal with a plastic hammer to get it to start on almost every trail in Moab last year. Since switching I haven't had any problems.

I run an Exide Orbital FWIW.
