I'd really like to do Bill Moore Lake again. This time when it is not cloudy and rainy. Seem like there would be alot of good views up there.

I would also like to complete Twin Cone. I have been on the trail 3 times and have never seen the top.

ChefTyler

Most of them are out Kevin's way, so a bit of a haul from Ft. Collins.

Is Medano the one near the Sand Dunes?

Alpine Spirit

Yep Medano drops you right into the Sand Dunes nothing real technical but it is an experience.

Speaking of Frackin', I need to get you those DVD's back! Know when 3.0 is being released (or is that this year?!)?

We definately need to get some runs going, but I'm down 'til the SAS gets done.

I love Medano pass. I try to take it every time I go to Pueblo/ Co Springs. Kinda easy just don't get stuck behing some oriental guy in a car with AWD that doesn't speak english and won't turn around. I had to dig that guy out four times before I just passed him.

The creeks should be great in the spring lots of snow over there now.

Something that would be good to know is who has what days off. I can work my schedule around somewhat...

So who has what days off for quicky day trips?

I'm a stupid ass weekender. With T/O that needs to be saved for use getting my company off the ground and running.

I would like to do Modano pass too. Others I've wanted to do but haven't gotten around to are:
- Pearl Pass
- Schoefield Pass
- Wheeler Lake
I always enjoy the Keystone/Breck area as well for close scenic wheeling. The hardcore stuff is out for me having just a PML on an Xterra.

I'm jonesin' soo bad! I have all this time off 'cause of the weather, but can't wheel. And as soon as it gets nice I'll hopefully be busy as hell. Anyone know of anything fun to drive when there's a bunch of snow on the ground? I don't have to work 'till monday, and I'd love to find something fun to play around on this weekend!

I still live very close to the Caribou/Coney Flats area. I would love to get a group together for a trip - we could link a bunch of trails together.

Start with Bunce for a warm-up, head up Coney and over, hit up Rainbow Lakes to Caribou (Caribou Trail is the proper name I think), take the Eldora Trail to Eldora. From there I have gone to Rollingsville on a fast, easy dirt road out of Ned, up to the James Peak area and into St. Mary's, then back over to Central City. A whole lot of miles, with very little pavement; probably a two day event.

If we don't want to go for that long, I could host a small mine tour (any more than 10 is difficult) at the gold mine I work at, or a BBQ and bonfire at my house in Ned (just above the reservoir so good fishing as well). Camping is avaliable at multiple spots just outside Ned, and at the trial out of Middle St. Vrain, as well as the Rollingsville to St Mary's area.

Could be a good trip. Nothing too difficult, but a lot of good scenery when you get up near Indian Peaks. Just an option....

Oh damn... i forgot about Coney!!!! Lots of trails up in that area too.

Well Kev & Clay... I don't get weekends off yet. Sounds like we may have some fun.

Alex, you going home over the summer?

Alpine Spirit

Yep I typically get Wed/Thurs off.

Yea, there are a lot of trails near Coney, especially when you consider that it is within Boulder County lines. I have a feeling a lot of these trails are gunna get closed in the next few years, so ride em while you still can.

I spent nearly all of last summer wheeling, camping and fishing within a thirty mile radius of Ned, so I am getting to know a few of these trails very well (like St. Vrain - I know of a few great camping spots just off the end of the trail, like a 1/4 mile walk in and just before the Indian Peaks Wilderness Exclusion Area). There are still a few I haven't done, like the road from Caribou to Eldora, and a few roads just off Peak to Peak Hwy that are still open.

I work a lot though, so all my trips are weekenders. I got quite a few days off last year, but I am taking three weeks for a honeymoon in Europe in August, so no dice this year.

I think the most-fun trail I've run in Colorado to date was the last run we did last year before I blew up my engine: Eagle Rock.

Things I haven't done yet that are high on my want list:

China Wall
Chinaman's Gulch
Anything on the hardcore side up north (like west of Ft Collins).

I need to stick with easier stuff as I am pretty much stock and my ride doubles as a baby taxi. But I am willing to try almost anything until I get rejected. I like stuff like Flowers rd. Seven mile, pingree hill. I have not done Kelly flats yet so hopefully this summer we can plan some runs.

I'd also like to give eagle rock another try. Made it through last year (somehow), and after the upgrades I'd like to see if it got any easier.

I don't think Eagle Rock is that hard? Have not been wheeling in the X yet though....
OCG is a blast!

Eagle rock is pretty hard in a bone-stock Xterra or Frontier, which is what Stubby was driving last year when we did it. It was also like his 2nd or 3rd time wheeling anything harder than a forest road. He did great, with only a minor bit of bodywork by mother nature along the way.

I guess that's true, I didn't think about a stock rig.. Sure is a fun trail though!
Looking forward to hitting it this year.

Thx Hippie! Also gotta keep in mind that I had a concussion for the last 2/3rds of the day. Didn't realize it till the next morning. Sure explained all those flashing lights I saw on the way home. That body damage I got is now completely avoidable thx to my nifty new sliders. :D I'm looking forward to driving it again. I think I'll have a much easier time, and even more fun.

rummor has it twin cone is closed, anyone know 4 sure. But planning on running slaughterhouse sunday.

Alpine Spirit
04-24-2007, 08:58 AM
Twin cone is still heavily snowed in. Also there is a sign there trying to keep people out saying the trail is closed. Officially it is not closed however, the FS thinks the locals put the sign up to deter people from driving through since the beavers are winning the battle and flooding the road. The FS does plan to do work on the road this summer to improve the situation.

There are quite a few trails listed on here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/arnf/conditions/forest-roads/clrd/index.shtml

Looks like almost everything is still closed.

Here's the corresponding page for forest service roads closer to Denver: http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/arnf/conditions/forest-roads/brd/index.shtml

They're all still closed too. I went and did a drive-by last Friday of roads/trails near Central City, and I think they're probably just about driveable (or were before this big storm moved in).
