Okay so I have a fuse block that I'm going to put in the X. Will hook from the battery to the fuse block. It will handle up to 6 30A circuits.

I plan to wire the CB to the fuse block. So technically it will always be "on" - not an accessory power source. If I have it set that way do I have to worry about draining the battery? The handset won't be plugged in all the time and if it is it will be in the "off" position. Just curious if it will use power to the base unit that the handset is plugged into if it's off or not plugged in - it's the 75WXST Cobra.

NOpe if its unplugged no power is used. There is nothing to complete a circuit.... oh and wire up that inline fuse since you have a fuse block.

Figured they designed it that way but wasn't sure.

Why wire up the inline fuse? 2 fuses??

if you run it to the fuse block may get a lot of electrical feedback. Most people run it straight to the battery. The radio should have an inline fuse.

Isn't the fuse block acting like an inline fuse?

If you use the fuse block that is a better location for the fuse, closer to the battery.

If you use the inline fuse I would move that closer to the battery, easier access and safer.

Your radio should have come with it's own fuse built into the wires (inline fuse). Whatever you do - do not upgrade the fuse if the manufacturer sold you the radio with a 3 amp fuse you must use nothing larger then the 3 amp fuse. If you do upgrade and it shorts out your going to burn the soundboard or destroy a fusible link on the soundboard.

Yes it did, but why would I need 2 fuses is what I'm getting at.

I can see keeping the inline fuse if I wire it to the battery, but if I wire it to the fuse block the fuse block would be the "inline" fuse right?

You dont need 2 fuses... I used the block and got rid of the inline fuse.

I just dont like the location of the fuse if your going to the battery... its too short and hard to get to.

oh okay yeah that's why I got the fuse block - to get everything in an easier to get to location.

The fuse that was with the CB is a 2A glass cylinder type. The fuse block takes ATO fuses so I'm assuming a 2A ATO should be fine.

Yeah that should work. Make sure you do not differ from the specs though. Go straight to the battery for + and -. Yes even the ground. If not, you will get a crapload of whine. Trust me, mine wants cheese.

lol yeah I figure I'll just wire the fuse box straight to the battery for both leads.

Mine gets power from the fuse block and grounds near the brake pedal. It works fine and doesn't drain the battery. It does receive power system interference when I use my air horn . I don't have enuff hands to use the horn and the CB at the same time, though.....
