This past weekend Allen came out and helped me out with a few projects. We ended up going to a local junkyard in search of a York 210 compressor. After checking out Volvos, Allen thought that he had heard that some old Chryslers had them as well. The selection of Chryslers were slim, but they had AMC mixed in with them. Almost by accident we tripped across what we were looking for, a York 210 with the suction on the left! A moment later we realized that it was a 73 Gremlin that held our prize. As we were removing it a guy came by with a grin on his face. He wanted to know if we had a Gremlin that we were fixing up. We said no and his smile faded. Gremlin groupie?
Well the build has started. The unit was cleaned up, the old pulley and clutch were removed and a new serpentine unit installed. Most all units found in the wild will have a V-drive pulley.
I will post new photos as I progress.

See you in Moab!

On Board Air? Doug, you did not provide enough info.

When you remove the AC it's easy. I will be getting rid of my little ARB compressor and running my lockers off the York along with being able to refill tires, etc... I will be posting info and photos as I progress. The next thing that has to be done is putting together a bracket to attach it to the old mounting location of the stock AC compressor.
I will post more when I get the bracket done.

Sacre Bleu!!

No AC!

That (AC) and heat are among the greatest differences between Xterras and Jeeps!

Doug, are you going to just run it without AC? That's gunna be uncomfortable in Moab :D

I don't need no stink'en AC. I didn't use that that often when I had it. My Xterra would run hot. I was able to run up and over a pass today that normally has me turning on the heater and creeping along in the slow lane. Today it was 4k RPMs and 65-70 mph. I'll take the York over AC any day.

Nice!!! I hear you on the AC I think I use mine like once or twice a year and the dust/smell is bad when I do use it.

Keep us updated with pics and progress.

Sweet! My latest rig is going to be set up alot like yours. The rear bumper will probably be the air tank.

I've never run my AC a Gone. Don't use it often but do like it on occasion.

OK first the bad news. I can not figure out how to get it to fit. The dang thing is just too tall. I tried every angle and it either hits the body, the PS lines, or the intake tube (both stock and aftermarket).
The good news is that if you have a SC Xterra / Frontier then it will fit. I don't know about a HB/Pathfinder.

It looks like a second alternator with a PowerWelder is going to go in instead.

Well, I can't let somethings go. This project haunted me, the box of parts laughing at me every time I went into the garage. I had to make it work. After messing around with things, I did. It involved getting a York 210 with a different type of head, but it's installed. I still have to get it plumbed out and the electrical hooked up, but I have a belt on it and was able to pump air by putting a test wire on it. It's shoved in there tighter than a (insert your own dirty comment here), but it fits.

I will post a more comprehensive how to once I get it all done. In the mean time here are a few photos.

See you next year in Moab!

Yeah, any pics of the bracketry? I'm still haunted by the thought of no A/C. Some may laugh at that thought, knowing my rig and all. But to tell the truth, when the hot wind is blowing sand in your ear, but your feet are nice and cool, it makes a ton of difference!

I have to take things apart to clean up a few things. I'll take some shots of the bracket, but it's pretty simple. It's three pieces of 3/16 steel, 8 holes and some notches.
Come on loose the AC! I have the other compressor that will fit right into the SC Phoenix. No more running out of Co2 or messing around with a little wimpy air compressor. Bite the bullet!

See you next year in Moab!

Nice project. Keith here in TX has dual alternators, one a custom welder AND a York pass side, and stock AC. All in a R50 Pathy, VG33e. The AC is on the drivers side top on R50s.

I have seen a few yorks on hardbodies and pathys on the pass side. You have to turn the battery. There is a few writeups on N4W.

Keith goes by System-f. He did that OBA years ago. I put a post on overlandtrucks.com

You may want to join and ask there.

His R50 is basically a rolling shop. Dual alts, triple batteries, full tower Computers, OBA, air tank bumpers and sliders. 110v inverters. Cutting torches etc..
