OK, I picked up a 92 pathy for a family friendly trail rig. It will remain street legal and be used as a daily driver when not on the trail. Just like the King Cab.
Here is my question. I want do a 2 link style suspension up front. With a panhard. I want to copy the patrol/fj80 style arms. But I will use a waggy axle.
Its similar to a ford C bushing. I plan to use 2.5"johnny joints at all 6 mounting points.

Why you ask. I want to use Coils not coil overs. The patrol mounts the coil to the top of the axle.
kind of like these. http://www.4x4store.com.au/images/detailed/2002dextremedrop80.jpg

What do you think? I assume some one has done this already.

I don't have much to add to this nissannut becouse i don't know much about three link and four link suspentions. However i'm using the johnny joints on each hanger of each spring and i love em. So i'd say go for it just be carefull when cornering....:)

You should just be able to use standard poly bushings on the front two points.. they are fairly stationary. That should be a really sweet setup!
Are you needing some FJ arms? I will keep a lookout at the local yards if you need some. Those patrol units look nice!!!
PM me about an axle if you are looking there too...

Alright knuckleheads.... If I wasn't yo axle pimp where would you be?
I used the 3 inch Joints on the Pathy radius arms... I liked the 3/4 inch bolt through the joint idea.

God damn I want a SAS. I even had a dream I had one the other day. Its been on my mind more recently cause there is something wrong with my front suspension but I can't figure it out. It wanders all over the road. My girl wont even drive it anymore cause it scares her and it makes weird radom noises. I thought it was a worn IA bushing but thats fixed, Allen has aligned it, Tire pressue is good, i'm now thinking ball joints. Stupid IFS! I can prolly scrape the cash together but can't be out a vehicle and finding time is tuff. I'm ranting/whining but i'm sick of the issues, its one thing after another!

Clay, we've got to get your truck over here this weekend, or Friday afternoon. I'm pretty sure we can figure out your wandering steering; just rebuilding everything you've already got the parts to rebuild is probably gonna fix it.

Thats what I need to decide. Use poly mounts or johnny joints. Not sure if the is a poly mount the same size. So I could convert to johnnys later.
I will be running sway bars on both ends.
My first idea was just use stock patrol or fj80 arm. Check out this website.

I love the mounting system.

Clay, if you go with the Calmini kit, we can probably get your SAS done on your days off one week...just adding some more fuel to the fire :D

I don't understand what's going on here. Why would you want a 2-link?
It seems expensive and more stressful to components. Also, the link I clicked went to Patrol arms. I don't imagine a patrol front axle will be too easy to come by.
Maybe somebody can fill me in on what I'm missing here.

Calmini coilover kit is a 2 link with coilovers - no room for coils
ford is a 2 link with coils-- dont want a ford axle with those funky Cs.
patrol/fj80 2 link with coils -- perfect but links too short and loose clearance.
I want to run coils. not coil overs.
I want to run a standard waggy axle. no cutting etc.
I really like the Patrol suspension. I want to copy it.:D

OK gotcha we just have a difference of terminology. The Calmini Kit is what I consider a 3-link.
If you want a suggestion for radius arms that work well for a Waggy 44, I have some Montero arms for sale in buy/sell. These arms are designed for a Dana 44 and require some simple brackets to be used on a Waggy axle.
I also have pictures of Rondo's fronty SAS using the same type of arms.

Very cool. THANK YOU. That is what I am looking for. I did not know monteros use those arm also.
I have never seen those pix of rondos setup. Very cool.
I like those arms because easier to add brackets. Not sure if I can run coils with them though.
Do they flex well?
The reason I was thinking 6 J joints is My buddys 4 " lifted jeep TJ ripped the axle mounts off the axle in just a few trips. It was a basic poly ink kit. Since he upgraded to Rubicon express arms he gets more flex.
I ordered two J-Joint rod ends.

Not sure why everybody around here hates coilovers so much but here's my quick idea:
Running anything you want shouldn't be a problem because the arms can be mounted so that there is no interference on top of the axle housing (upside down of the way Rondo has his). This gives maximum room for whatever bracketry you need.
Flex is great:

Those arms are cast steel I-beams and are bulletproof. Ron has run for god knows how many miles of DD as well as offroad without any problems. He runs 10" King Shock Coilovers and drive at 75 mph all the way to Moab with no problems (with no swaybars!!). The on/off road performance is what made me choose the King Coilovers as well.
Good luck!

I dont hate coil overs. There just expensive. I just want to keep costs down if possible. I want to copy the rear. Coils on all corners. Kinda like my D21, leafs on all corners.
I like those arms. What montero are they from exactly? My sister had a 90 montero 4wd, but it was IFS. I dont remember what the rear looked like.

Varios years that had the D44. Rondo would know for sure.
I have some for sale in Buy/Sell if you like them. It should be a decent price; it's 33% lower than what I paid. Let me know if your interested.
