I stole the idea of a rear cargo box from some guys at the Ronin run on Sunday(Thanks Scott and Jeff for showing me your set-ups). So I got really bored that night and decided to recycle some old scrap wood that I was going to run to the dump. (look close in some pics you can see nails):crikey:
It probably goes without saying. You will get a much nicer finished product if you use new wood rather than old weathered wood.

I started with a piece of scrap plywood and a couple of 1"x6"'s.

Then I cut the 1x6's into two 36.75" long sections.

I cut the plywood to 33.75"X37.75" and screwed it on the top making sure that the legs were longer than the top for a better fit against the rear seat when in the upright position. Also cut the legs so that they are either slanted with the seat or notched (Like I did). Notching makes it easier to get my hands in there and release the jack and extinguisher.

Fill the gap on the back side. (Toward the front of the truck) I cut a 35 1/8" section of 1"x6" (This will be the face for the extinguisher mount)

Everywhere in town was out of Herculiner, so I settled for a coat of rattle can auto primer until I locate some.

Next (but should have come before paint) I marked out and drilled the holes for my Hi-Lift mount.

And then mounted a small automobile extinguisher on the part that sits behind the driver side rear seat.

What it looks like from the back. Sorry its dark.

What it looks like with the seat folded forward on the drivers side.

Without the jack and other gear on it.

I hope someone finds this useful. Let me know if there is anything I can do to clear up the write-up.

Thanks,
Will

Kyle you have a lot more room to build stuff. I say you go for it. Plus with the Hi-lift mounted inside it is less likely to bind up than if you allow it to get beat by weather.

i think i might...good point on the high lift being inside. i'm planning on getting a load warrior basket for the roof rack and was just thinking i'd put the high lift up there, but it makes more sense to keep it in from the weather, especially since i've got so much room. that project will have to wait a bit though; last night i removed all my seats and most of my carpet in preparation for complete herculiner job on the floor all throughout.

Nice. I contemplated the HERC on my cargo area when I put the box in. Let me know how it goes and I still might do it.

I Herculined the cargo area of mine. Here's a picture of how it turned out. I put the plastic panels back on that cover the speakers and sides, but I didn't take a picture of the final product. A one quart can of Herculiner coated the whole cargo area plus some touch-ups on the top side of my sliders.

Lovin the box (I bought Scott's old one from his 1st generation), just one thing. Have you thought about mounting the extinguisher (or another one) up front somewhere so it's easy to get to in case you need it (when you will need it you will need it NOW and probably won't have time to get to the back and get it where it's mounted now). Just my $0.02.

Nice piece of work but, (no criticism intended) gotta have an extinguisher much closer to hand. There like friends more you have around better off you are.
