The battery in my Element died on me today so I had to jump it. After it started back up I got a "code error" on my radio display. It is wanting a code number put in. Anybody know where I can find this code or do I have to take it to the dealer. Could it have anything to do with the corrosion on the terminals? I know I need a new battery as I have never replaced it at it has 110,000+ miles. The guy at carquest said it may not be getting proper voltage.

you gotta enter the code for the built in anti theft. you will probably have to get the serial number off the radio and call the maker of the radio to retrieve the code....thats what my buddy had to do. dealer will probably charge you a fortune. or you could buy a new radio and install it.

if you try to put the code in and its wrong a certain number of times the radio will lock itself out.

It's just a factory stereo. Would it be in my owners manual? Any idea why it would do that?

oops, forgot to change usernames

my dad's benz used to do that sometimes. call the dealer, they'll tell you what you need to do to get the code. then write it down somewhere, so next time it happens you don't have to go through all that again.

I got it figured out and working again!! Turns out EOC (element owners club) Has their own version of our Allen. All he needed was the stereo serial number and he sent me the code. And yes, I wrote it down.

Seems like it's a pretty worthless feature if you can figure the code out online and have it working. Or if it's right on the back of the deck, lol.

That's what I thought. They guy that gave me the code had no idea if it was really mine or if I had stolen it! I looked all over the interior and didn't find the code anywhere.
