I got it today and damn is that bastage stout! I couldn't get the tailgate in my pickup closed because my toolbox is back there and the bumper is mounted on a pallet. After I got it off the pallet I managed to manhandle the bugger into the back of the X so I can take it somewhere I can clean, prime and paint the thing, hopefully this week while it's warm-ish so I can get it installed this weekend. Providing, of course, that I can get a hand swapping bumpers :D
Anyone have a place I can paint it and let it dry out of the elements?

Tyler,
I had my wheels powercoated at a shop off of 6th and Sims. It was $75 for the prep (all wheels) and $10 a wheel for powercoat. My total bill was $125 for 5 rims. I did it 4 years ago and they've held up great. Give them a call and see what the cost would be. You might save yourself lots of time. Plus they have about 1000 different colors you can choose to. For example there where 6 different shades of Black I had to pick from for my wheels. Here is their # 303-278-0406

Tyler..
I am getting your TJM powdercoated as well, I wonder if we brought them in together if they would cut us any deal, just throwing it out. I think I am going to try and get it to match my paint as close as possible, I have not seen any silver x with a silver bumper, i think it would look good.

That'd be an idea...I'll call them today or tomorrow (probably tomorrow as I can't get myself motivated to do much of anything today) and I'll ask 'em about it something tells me that they won't do much for bringing in two bumpers at the same time and doing them in two different colors though. For convenience sake, however, it would be a good way to go.

pictures? Link? which options?
I have to live vicariously through others untill the ex- and I settle a few things.
The first money I pump into my X will be a new front bumper.

No pics yet, still bare steel. It's the 2"BL version with no hoops (got used to the way my T-17 looked). I'll have my Warn 9000# winch in there and 2 Hella Rallye 4000s sitting on top of it (looks a lot like Jeff Conner's just an '02 and the bumper will be black, not gray).

I would wait to get a bumper until you decide if you are doing a body lift or not, thats a pretty big factor in what bumper you order

Tyler;
My clutch will be replaced by Allen Saturday. If you still need to paint your bumper, you can bring it over & paint it in my garage. I also would like to check it out.
I promise it won't make its way onto my truck.

This weekend is out for me, I have a firearms class Saturday and range time Sunday :D
The following weekend is a possibility if your garage is still open :D

Just called the powder coating company and he said worst case scenario is $150.00 for my Shrock, but he said he'd be able to give me a firm estimate when I bring it in. I asked about getting a discount for bringing in both bumpers and he said that it would in fact help out the cost. Looks like I'm bringing the Xterra to work tomorrow to run it over for an estimate.
Tom, what are you looking to spend on powdercoating?

I was looking to spend around 100.. Im not sure if getting it painted silver will bring the cost up, im guessing it will, but Im flexable. If its going to be over 150 I will end up doing it myself, but if they get us a good deal for both bumpers, I would do that for sure. :)

I did, and it turns out worst case scenario is the way it's going to be.
Problem is, they are the cheapest place I've found so far...Denver bumper works (or whatever they call it) quoted $450 which is way too high...but I think the lady on the phone was wacked out of her mind.
This weekend really doesn't work for me either, altho it would be a great weekend temp wise to paint the Shrock...

Good advice, but I drive to Denver far to often to start screwing around with the way the X handles, which I am very happy with.
As an aside to the powder coating, I bought an aftermarket "Quality S" hitch in October and rust is starting to bubble up through the paint at the welds already. You get what you pay for. I was looking at having the hitch powder coated and now realize that I would have saved money buying the nissan hitch and then I would have the step and the light plug mount, and hopefully no rust after 5 months.:baby:

You're right in that temperature is very important for the paint. I would be happy to help if I'm available when it comes. I even have a wooden bumper-painting fixture. I just need to figger out whattheh3ll happened to it...
What kind of primer and paint will you use?
