i'm lookin for a set of lights..prob gonna go with some kc daylighters...but was wondering..how have all you, who have the lights up top, run the wires inside? i make frequent trips down to durango to see family and many times i leave late and return late...that extra light would be awesome..esp the stretch between del norte and pagosa...tons of deer.

thanks!

Most of the people I've seen cut a hole in the roof, toss a grommet up there, and seal the crap out of it with silicone. There is a thread over on XOC with a sweet setup for a new style of roof mounted light bar that rotates down so the lights don't stick up when not in use. Makes getting in and out of garages much easier :D

ETA: found it! (http://www.xterraownersclub.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=38;t=003354#000000)

I drilled a small hole and used gasket maker...been two years and never had an issue. Drilling is not that scary. I ran the ground to the dash.

Fogs should never be mounted on the top. Long range and floods are best for the top.

I ran mine down inside the rubber stripping on the door. then into the engine bay and through the main grommet on the drivers side through the fire wall.

Oh and 2 things...

1. Fogs wont help you out any if they are mounted up top... you want beams or floods.

2. It is illegal to run lights above bumper height on the highway I believe.

I ran the wires down the inside of the rack and then I drilled a hole where the rack contacts the roof. Then I ran the wires down the piller between the plastic and the A-piller. I cleaned it all up by using some of that plastic corrigated wite cover stuff. you can bareley see the wires now.

Drilling the hole is kinda scary but it is the cleanest look.

those are some good ideas...i didn't really mean fogs...but just using a more generic term for lights....most of that trip are straight strips for miles...it is illegal but at the times i'm driving there aren't ever cars on the road...and if there are you can see them a couple miles before you get to them....i've seen tons of deer though and it'd just be nice. thanksall

I know that drive very well and i understand what your saying.. I used to live in durango sweet town i miss the durango diner sooo much. Green chili mmm the chili relleno cure mmm oh well good times. I would run distance/spot lights on the stinger/bumper. Or maybe floods on the stinger/bumper here is a pic of what i did.

packman i cannot build anything aside from a campfire and cool lego toys. Allphase built that one, i wish i had skills like that. A friend of mine does have all the tools (bender, notcher, welder) if you want to put one together sometime. Strong bumpers rock though cause i pulled my tractor trailer out twice with that one already....
