Wow. That actually looks like a great deal. 500 bones for a nice carrier that can accomodate bigger R&P. I like it.

That would work nicely for ya, Ben. I say do it :D
But then again, it's not my $$$

I won't go any larger then 5.13 with the ring and pinion. I think it's too fragile past that point in the D44. However it will alow me to put full floaters in the rear with warn lockout hubs. I figure it won't set me back too much more since i've already got the arb and r&p. If I understand correctly, all that is needed is the carrier, R&P and the brakes? So to go full float with that rear maybe 1000 bucks for the brakes, hubs, and axle shafts? So i figure the whole swap would set me back 1,500 bucks? Is it all that easy or am i missing something?

Ben.... Ford 9 brother!!!!
To go beefier you are going to need bigger shafts anyway. Which = a new locker... You could use the existing locker on a Frontier in the future or sell it to me, I may need one here soon.

hmmmm ok well i know i've got spydertrax or currie who both make the 9" housings. And of coarse i've always got a junk yard housing... I'll have to put some numbers together ryan. I hate to blab about something i cannot do soon so let me figure out if i can afford this venture. The crawlers, allpro bed, fuel tank, and possibly hydro assist have to happen before may 20th. The axle i have now can take moab with no prob but i'll chat with you about it today.

How big a tire combo do you plan on going? If its 35s or less, I'd stay with the 44 and some alloys.

he is running 37's right now I believe. when I talked to him last week he said he wanted 38.5 or 39's

37's and yes i'd like to run 38.5's as soon as my 37 wear out. I talked to Ryan and Allphase they both agree that a ford 9" is my best option. I cannot run alloys with the dana 44 I have right now. My only option with this 97 isuzu rodeo D44 is hardened shafts. So i'll sell ryan the ARB and keep the ring and pinion for my next sas'd truck. All I need now is a big bearing ford 9" 35 spline shafts, matching ARB, and a disc brake conversion. If anyone wants a D44 I've got one for sale with disc brakes!!!

I am getting rid of a d44 rear axle. You'll be better off staying with your nissan rear axle unless you want the d44 rear because the gears are cheaper. Ryan Gee may have d44 fronts 4 sale (not sure). I am in FOCO let me know if you do want the d44 rear.

I don't want to mislead you though if you did ditch your rear. Which is incredibly stong providing you have a 6cyl. You are going to have to buy make a few purchases.
The R&P install kit $180 from yukon
Either a new driveshaft or have your old one modified to fit on the yoke.
A new carrier
Or if you want the whole set up with the 5.13's and the ARB i guess it may be cheaper then setting it up yourself....
The only reason why i used the Rear D44 was becouse i had a 4cly engine. So nissan put a weak rear end on my truck. It was an upgrade for me but may not be as strong as your nissan rear end providing you have a 6cly.....

get those jeepers. Hey I got a question ,my rear end has the LSD from the factory. I cant find a locker that will work in it. The few I found were for the open diff ,detroit etc. do you know of any?

The ARB is the only locker that replaces the carrier alltogether. It's easy enough to find an open carrier to do a mechanical locker, though.

I have no clue RyanGee is more of the Diff guru

there is no option for locking an LSD except ARB. however, you can add a clutch disk to the LSD and make it really tight, like a spool, which is what I did. it has pretty bad road manners, but it works, and it was cheap. I have a lockright and open diff ready to go in, just haven't gotten to it yet.

Open diff is easy for the d21 crowd. That D44 will hold up to anything our v6's will dish out. The Scouts and Waggys used them in the rear for years running a V8.
Ben is thinking of going to a bigger tire. Most folks say the stock 44 axle shafts hold up fine with a tire up to 35 inches tall. Chromos are needed to go with 37's. A guy could buy that axle complete from Ben and be way ahead. The 5.13's alone for the 233b will end up being 500+ after the install.
I have a few front 44's saved up if somebody needs one. They are complete units out of a Waggy.

Well I got my 9" off craigs list for 60 bucks.. pulled the axle shafts and 3rd member today in only 30 min's. The axle looks like a rusty p.o.s. right now. But i'll keep posting with pic's as my progress continues...
