So this all started with replacing the pass side upper O2 sensor, since then my truck has thrown a few different codes. 0120, 0174, 1705, and of corse the knock sensor code .

All since replacing replacing that on O2 sensor, am I not suppost to replace on at a time or something... I have to drive to oregon (six hours away) in three days and I cant have this thing all F'ed up. Please help.:(

And now the truck wont start unless I put the fuel pedal down, the scan gauge says the TPS is staying at 7, I double checked oin my GF's truck (same truck) and the TPS code on the scan gauge goes up and down like is supposted to. So I guess I need a TPS.....dam it. Is there any thing special to replacing this?

Don't go anywhere, keep looking at this thread, I'll check my manuals and post back ASAP.

Double check your connectors. It looks like there's a couple of connectors that could be swapped or disconnected.

Did you disconnect anything besides the O2 sensor?

The 1705 code, I'm not finding that. You might try disconnecting your battery for a minute and see if that helps reset everything. Have the key "On" when you pull the battery cable. Turn the key "off" before reconnecting the battery.

Okay, this will take a minute.. So we went wheeling today, I crossed a creek that aparently was deep enough to get some connections wet (didnt even get past the wheel. WTF?) which caused the tranny to shift weird and the engine to idle high. Ive delt with this problem before from washing the engine and figured out to disconnect the plugs, blow them out with air and a quick sprits of WD40. Did that again today, the high idle went away and the tranny is shifting normal again. but the TPS codes have gotten worse since replacing that on sensor. I did remove/replace the neg but not in the manner you stated, Ill try that in the morning.

As far as the connections on the TPS I double checked against the one on the GF's truck as well as marking them before hand. BUT... Now Im remembering there are two connections on the drivers fire wall that are identical and right next to one another that could have gotten swapped, Im not sure what they are to but had a little mositure so I blew em out...wonder if I swapped em...? The 1705 code came up right after that....hmm

The 1705 code is- throttle position sensor to A/T fault. (flash code 1206)

That sounds like a TPS fault. There is a procedure for replacing the TPS, using a DVOM and a feeler gauge, unless your Scan Gauge can detect the TPS Closed On/Off signal?

Also, double check the connectors on the firewall at the passenger's side, since it's an auto, the connectors are up there. May have water in there as well.

Also check your grounds on the intake manifold and insure they're tight, not stripped. Take them off, scuff the leads and reconnect for insurance.

Ill get back to this tomorrow and see if I can finger out which way those two connectors on the drivers side plus checking for water on pass side.

(Do you recomend di-electric grease for connections to keep water out or could that potentually jump signals?)

Ill have to root around and find the grounds on the intake.

Thanks for the fast response Allen, we'll get back to this in the am.

I hate chiltons...

Chiltons sucks, although they do sometimes have some good stuff.

Di-electric grease just won't inhibit conductivity. You can use it without worrying about arcing. I use it, no worries.

Well....Fingered out the problem, TPS, thank fully napa had one in stock...30 miles away. After a little while of scratching my head trying to figure what the hell the chitlins book was talking about I got it adjusted. Best I can tell, they tell you to check the incorrect poles on the open/closed switch to adjust it. But I got her in and the truck runs much better now, no codes, and the tranny shifts happier. Thanks again Allen.
