Stock radios

I have an 06 x and a plain stock single cd no mp3 head unit. I put in an older pioneer I had w/MP3 but it sounded like crap. I was wondering if the fosgate head units work with out the whole fosgate system. and if any of you are looking to maybe get rid of your fosgate unit.

I don't think they do. If I remember correct, they don't have an amp built into the head unit and require a secondary amp mounted elsewhere. If you want better sound, ditch the crappy factory speakers. The nicest headunit in the world will still sound like crap through crappy speakers.

I thought that the amp was just for the sub and not for the speakers, the problem with the aftermarket radio was it wouldn't get loud enough. I just wanted the mp3 capability and to be able to have it at what stock level 28 is but it sounded like stock level 10. that is why I was wondering about the fosgate unit. if it needs an amp then screw it.

well thats another question. Crutchfield says that the rear doors are 6.75" speakers but they only recommend 5.25"s. I have cutting tools if thats what needs to happen to fit 6.5"s or 6.75"s or open it up a bit more for another pair of 6x9's any info on why they would be saying 6.75 doesn't work with a 6.75???
