View Full Version : No start.. No voltage at fuel pump

I have an 01 Xterra w/ 106k miles on it.
I've been having a no start issue and I isolated it down to no power going to the fuel sending unit harness that feeds the fuel pump.

I changed the fuel pump fuse and the Fuel pump relay.

I'm still not getting any voltage on the two wire harness at the fuel sending unit. (two wire connector, white w/ blue stripe and Black), No voltage when the key is forward out of either.

If I hook those wires up directly to the battery I can hear the fuel pump running, it just doesn't do it like it should when I kick the key forward.

I'm starting to think it might be the ECU. :(

Any ideas??

Is there power on the other side of the relay?

There should be power on terminal 2 and 5 when the key is on/start, terminal 3 of the relay goes to the fuel pump and terminal 1 is the terminal that the ecu grounds to activate the relay.

If there's not power on both terminals then you've got a wiring issue. The fused wire splits to power both sides of the relay on the same 15amp fuse.

Thanks for the fast response Allen. Greatly appreciated.
I'll take a look at that right now.

alrighty..
I have no power at terminal 2 or 5 when the key is on/start.
I checked the fuse again and it looks good.
I tested for voltage at the fuse and I have it on the right side.
So no problem with the fuse.

There is a problem between the fuse and the relay.
I guess I have to trace wires inside the dash.
What should I look for?

Make sure you have the right fuse! #1 at the upper left hand corner? 15amper? Try swapping in a good 15amp fuse and see if it works.

I tested for voltage at the fuse and I have it on the right side.

Not power on both sides? Supposed to be power on both sides of the fuse with the key on. Pull it and look at it.

Figured it out!
Thanks a lot Allen.

Where the fuse goes in was widened up too much, so one side wasn't making contact with the fuse.
I took a small precision screwdriver and bent the prongs back down and the fuse completes the circuit and I have power to the relay.

Put the key forward and I hear the fuel pump kicking on once again. :D

Now I just have to throw a full charge on the battery and it should start right up. :D

After sitting for 6 months and this was all it was?! ugh..

Thanks again!
