I prefer HAM, but I also have handheld CB and FRS/GMRS radios.

Anyone that was on steel bender knows that I use smoke signals. My cb is broken and only goes a few hundred feet.

Run both ham and cb, but prefer ham for range, clarity and plug and play installs. Have a Yaesu 2800 2 meter ham radio and one of those cobra cbs where everything is in the handset. Works fine for the trail use it sees. I tell you one thing, it works alot better now that I dismounted the antenna from the yakima roof rack. A few weekends ago we welded a tab onto the shrock rear bumper and rewired everything. So much clearer.

FRS radios blow ass, but unfortunately alot of folks use them so I have a cheapie one of those as well. I have used an opened ham to hit FRS frequencies, but that's not legit and I don't have a radio that will operate like that anymore.
