Okay - so I am going to postpone this trip until later. Maybe later in August. I have too much going on right now and I can't make it. Of course if any of you that were interested still want to go ya can :)

I have been wanting to do these trails again, and from some info I found I think both are now open all the way, but waiting on an email with some more info to confirm. Though by the 25th they should be good. Muddy in some spots I'm sure, but should not be an issue.

These are totally doable stock, but are fun and scenic trails. Maybe we can find something else in the area to do on the way back if we get done early enough.

I figure meet @ 9AM @ the rest stop off Exit 190 on I-70, and have at the trails.

I have thought about doing Lime Creek as well, but would like to try to find more info about it - it sounds like it could get very muddy. If it's not bad, I'd say run it - but if it's gonna be more of a mud run, I'd rather skip that personally. Don't mind a little here and there but from the Traildamage description it sounds as if the amount of mud could be significant as they recommend not doing it alone due to it. Might be a bit early in the year to run it, but if you got more info on the trail, let me know.

Hmm...I would be going up. How about resolution mountain?

I saw some pics from what was supposed to be McAllister of someone on the 4th doing it - and there didn't seem to be any snow at all.

Maybe it's melted and turned into the ton of water they were talking about.

Here's some pics I found from up there on the 4th:

Well even if we can't make Res. Mtn. and just the rest of the trail, it'll still be fun.

Hmm...so I was thinking I'd like to get to the top of Res. Mtn.....

So any interest in Twin Cone instead of these two?

Count me in for the original plan.

After these two relatively short trails, you can head down to leadville and head east over Mosquito Pass to US 285.

Yeah that wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Id be down to do the first trails mentioned. Sounds like fun.

Okay so let's stick with the original plan.

BTW you could totally bash your stock side steps on this one. I know they aren't rated very high but there is the possibility of some rocks. It will also be pretty muddy in places most likely, so be prepared for that.

Yeah I kinda planned on pulling the side steps off, they arent really that useful and just seem to get in the way. And I dont mind getting muddy, as long as I can get out or someone can tow me out. I mean it cant be worse than hitting a street lamp.

Hey Andrew,
I'm planing on being there, the Mosquito Pass idea is what I was thinking when you post this up. I think we would have plenty of time to hit all four areas.

Would anyone be up for camping that night and then doing a few more trails Sunday? I have no idea if there are any campsites or how many trails are in the area.

OdiN
07-09-2009, 10:27 AM
I don't think I can that day. I'm not sure of camping in that area. Well if you take Mosquito pass there is camping not too far on the 285 near Twin Cone area.

Eric P

There is a ton of camping in the area. At Camp Hale and along the trails, and if you head east from Leadville, the Turquoise Lake area. Not sure if you can camp on the Mosquito side of Leadville as much of that land is private.

I thought that it was said a couple of week ago or so  I would think by next weekend we should be fine.

OdiN
07-17-2009, 09:27 AM
Yeah I don't know...starting to think perhaps we should run the trail loop backwards starting with McAllister. Or instead of that just do Ptarmigan and then head down to Mosquito Pass?

Just wondering if this trip is still on? I saw that this might be a camp out trip. I will keep watch to see what happens.

OdiN

I'm not sure. I may need to get some work done to prepare for the Ouray trip. Maybe I should reschedule this for a little later and then McAllister will for sure be open.

We will be running something in that area that day and Sunday (staying in Breckenridge for the weekend). We have some friends coming with us so will be dropping their car in Breck in the morning. Since it looks like this isn't going to happen we will probably go from Breck over Boreas pass and then do Red Cone. If this trip is still on, we may play catch up and do it (no way we are meeting at the top of Vail pass at 9:00 am though). We will probably leave Fort Collins at 7:30 Saturday. If anyone wants to meet up let me know.
