Today we went to a local shop, they were working on a toyota tacoma, using a mitsubishi nativa (montero sport) parts.
The took the real axle with differential and installed it in the tacoma, why?:
Two Reasons:
Disc Brakes and the main reason in that mitsubishi has a rear differential system that is almost like an ARB air locker, it looks very similar and works exactly the same.
This is the first time I know about it.
Here in my country people prefer to modify toyotas and nissans because is much easier to get parts for it.

Do any of you guys knew about this system?
What do you think about it?

Never heard of that, of course i haven't heard of a lot so...:p :D

But what i do know is....1997-1999 were the only times in US i believe that you could get a rear locker on the Montero Sport / Challenger.

What about Pajeros...didn't they start production on those...like...in...the..80's?

What I understand, the pajeros (we call them montero here) have the same system.
You mention since 1997 up to 1999, the mechanic here told me that up to date they keep coming with the differential lock.
Here in Panama junk yards are expensive, but for you guys in US, thats a very cheap way to have lockers in your car.

Side note, isn't pajero a..."dirty word"? lol.

I'm fairly certain, at least the Montero Sport, released in the united states, from 2000 on does not come with a locker, instead the option was changed to a limited slip diff. Perhaps the pajeros are a little different.

I think an arb air locker installed is about 1300$ (waits to be corrected). Is this said axle swap cheaper?

$700ish for the locker
$200ish for the compressor
$100-$400 for install

so not far off :D

You are correct, pajero means something else!

To give you an idea, a 1992 V6 Pathfinder with blown engine, he wants $3000

do ichypussy's, i mean mitsubishi's, have the same wheel bolt pattern as nissan, ie 6x5.5? also, a tacoma here in the states is available with an electric locker, stock, why would the ARB type found in the mitsu be better than the elocker in the taco, unless they don't come with e-lockers there?
