I'm not sure if this is an electrical problem but thats what im thinkin. Any ideas why it doesn't work?
The gas tank doesn't have any damage. Its staying on empty with the gas light on.

Not even a dent... Normally the tank has been hit when it stops. In that case the unit inside the tank needs to be replaced. Access panel is under the passenger rear seat.
There is a trail near Buena Vista called Old Chinamens Gulch... there is one rock there that has taken numerous gas tanks and resulted in the same issue.

Theres a custom skid plat covering the whole thing, I cant see any damage, but maybe im not looking hard enough. Ill keep looking.
I've been up to that trail a couple times in my old fj, didnt have any problems since the tank is under the passenger seat.

You are the man!
I looked in the access panel and i noticed there was a tube that was unplugged (kinda hidden away) so i stuck it in, turned the X on and bang it works:bannana:
Now i just have to figure out why i can practically watch it go down.

You don't have any sort of codes at all? Not for the fuel tank issue, but for the mileage issue. Does it smell rich at all? Manual or auto? What gears are you running? Nissans are low geared from the gitgo, but with them thar tires, it might be geared too high!
I'd be interested to see if you have a knock sensor code at least. Dirty MAF, lazy O2 sensor(s) and whatnot could create a world of hurt at the gas station.
By the way, intake, what do you have there?

that axle combo is familiar, sounds the plushfab rig that had some, well, disappointing results. pretty sure that one was a 60/10.25 combo too.

10.25"? Ford rear with a Ford D60 up front? Is the front a High Pinion like the newer Powerstrokes?

Looking at some of the Po's pics, it looked like it could wheel pretty well, but who knows ill just have to find out for myself. I don't know if this is a possibility but i wanted to see if i could put portals under it....at some point.

it wasn't that it couldn't wheel (the plushfab x, belonged to kinetic) it was that the spare tire mount broke off the exo cage, while the truck was being trailered! it looked like a 3 year old welded the cage. where did yours come from?

Yep same rig but all the plush fab work was chopped and redone by a competent person.
I actually got banned from pirate4x4 for a couple weeks for warning everyone about the plush fab guy.

I don't understand that, i thought pirate was a little thicker skinned than that. maybe it's just the toy crew, sounds like MVM has them all wrapped up. usually pirate is ruthless on hack fabricators, perhaps put it in the chit-chat section.

Man that sucks! At least i know the PO fixed all that stuff. The PO was a really nice guy, Ive bought a lot of cars and he was the first to really go through and explain everything, and told me about all the little things that need fixing.
I don't know, i trust his work. Good to know, where the truck came from, thanks for the info guys.
I'm going to bring it to auto zone i a bit, do i need to tell them what codes i need or will it just give me all of them?

looks like he bought it from Kinetic last summer.
couldn't find anything else from him about it, but I haven't looked too hard. I do think that all the bad work was removed/re-done, i remember seeing the cage tube in a pile in Kinetic's garage. I'm sure it will be fine, just kinda messed with my head for a bit, that the 1 ton x was in CO now. I doubt there is anything that can't be re-welded, if it needs it.
Just have them hook up the scanner to the OBD port and it will list any codes you have stored. Also, ask them to clear the codes, so if you go in again in a week you know that any codes are new.

Thanks for the help guys ill be back in a bit with the codes.

ok, now I am really confused. the x that guy is building looks a lot like yours, but it is linked and coiled. what am I missing?
Packman5280
03-06-2007, 11:08 AM
wow, so no more front leafs? didn't even realize that, saw the hangers are still there and assumed it was still SOA. So it is now a 3 link with coils. neat, i want to see it.

Kenetic took it back from PLush
Kenetic sold it to Wesley Combs
Wesley then ripped it apart and redid it
Wesley then sold it to Boulder Cruiser
Boulder Cruiser
03-06-2007, 11:41 AM
Yep that how it went. It is a three link with coils, the next step is a 4 link in the rear.
OK so these are the codes he wrote for me:
P0171 Too lean
P0325 Knock sensor
P0180 Fuel Temp
He also said something about my o2 sensor, I'm not sure if that falls into any of those but he said it needs to be replaced.
They didn't know what the "fuel temp" meant.
Alpine Spirit
03-06-2007, 11:51 AM
Allen is the best with codes.
But I think sometimes the o2 sensor will show up but not actually need to be replaced. Normally after the knock sensor is replaced the o2 is fine.

So could this be why I'm getting such bad mpg's?
Packman5280
03-06-2007, 12:07 PM
i would expect with a bad KS that you would be running rich, which would explain the bad mileage. not sure why you are running lean, but the o2 sensor could lead to that. don't worry about the KS, we can wire in some resistors that will trick the ECU into thinking the KS is OK, which will save you a few hundred bucks.

I did the KS mod myself after reading a guys cardomain page where he scoped all the sensors in his maxima. he said a good functioning KS should read around 500KOhms to ground, so i just yanked the wire out of the sensor and attached 5 100KOhm resistors to it and hooked it to ground. no more KS code.

yeah it is pretty easy. you can pick up a 6 pack of 100K resistors at radio shack for like a dollar, then wire them in line (one after the other). I wired mine parallel which didn't work, then in series which worked great. you can also just get one 470K resistor which I read somewhere that someone did and it worked too.

Thank the lord you painted over that red. ;) I was to lazy to paint it.
Glad to see your wheeling it, once you get the rear linked make sure and re adjust the alignment on the front. Also when in 4wd are you getting a little axle vibration on the front? That bushing in the upperlink is rubber and I think it got pretty loose. I had some bushings custom made. They are about .005 larger than the diameter of the tube so they have to be pressed in. Give me your addy and I will mail them to you. (They need a hole drilled through the center for the bolt but that should be pretty easy if you have a buddy with a drill press).
I'm dying to get back on the trail. Hopefully this weekend in Harlan. :)
L8r man.
