This trail is dying due to too many tree blockages. Ron and I decided to try to clear it.
Not too far down, Ron ended up un a gully. When I pulled him with the winch, I got pulled down. I dug some big holes getting out. These holes made the recovery more difficult. It took about 2 1/2 hours in extremely slippery conditions. I need some chains!
I didn't get any pics of the 'fun' stuff, but heres some:

Let me sum the day up by saying beautiful day, fun drive, frustratingly stuck and relieved to get out.
Started at Balanced Rock in Garden of the Gods.

Beautiful day under Pikes Peak.

Here is the unbroken snow on FS 302. Don't know how deep it may get. I went first so the winch is behind me.

Jeff had to get the saw out.

This is the part where I see the steep drop and the stream under the snow and think "I just need to know how far I can push it."

Now I know there is a limit - and I have crossed it. This was not an easy recovery either.

In case you're wondering the log was a problem.

This is how far it pulled Jeff down. This also shows how steep the grade is.

I am still so impressed with my little X, once turned around, it drove right out. It is apparent thought hat I need a better rear recovery point. Anyone selling a stock hitch and frame stiffener?

still looks like it was a lot of fun!
Also, Ron, did your TJM come with blinkers or are those your stock Xterra ones?

Thanks for the great pics, Ron!
It was fun, for sure.
We literally used almost every piece of recovery gear on my truck. We needed to winch twice and use the tow straps twice. I was digging big holes, so we connected 3 straps to try preserve some flat ground.
I'm just glad we got off the trail before sundown.
:bannana:
EDIT:
Sully, those are the lights that came with the pre-2006 TJMs.

I'm tryin to find some blinkers to fit my TJM, otherwise I am using mine and just making custom mounts.

I think one side came with the bumper and the other is a junkyard fix.

Looked like some fun, some work. Probably would have been a little too much for my stock X, but I would have tried anyway knowing that help was there if I got into trouble.
I did go play in a mud hole behind my work today and got the X a little dirty. :p I'll take some pics tomorrow just so you guys know I ain't afraid to get off the paved road. With money being a little tight, I just can't go play much. Hopefully that changes next year. :)

Hopefully it's that way for everyone....
I did some mall crawling today...there was a snow pile in a parking spot and it was a good spot....so...put 2 and 2 together :D

Let's try to go soon. We didn't get as far as we needed to. I think your rig would be ideal for this trail because of your tires. I probably won't go back without chains.

That looks like a lot of fun! Can't believe you guys were able to make fresh tracks too, makes it much more fun IMO.
Also it is nice to see wheelers do trail maintenance (Jeff ) I often see people drive around fallen trees rather than removing them.
I am up for some trails soon, but I will be in my wife's T (http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=159075)J because the X is going choppy-choppy :D

Driving around is not an option just a little farther down the trail. There is a massive tree suspended between the rocks that are on both sides of the trail.
There are a lot of trails that would otherwise be mundane that would be fun with snow. How about Illinois Gulch?

That must have been the wifey. She took it and it came back clean. I didn't even remember it was silver.
