OK guys......so I got myself an sxel this week. I want to start planning out what I need and how much I need to do this swap. I talked to kevin before and he said I could ask away. so here it goes.
should I co calmini all the way around or should i go calmini front and soa rear?
if i go soa will i have to put a sye in?
is it worth it to buy the fox shox from calmini or should i source the shocks seprate?
or should I go with the Kings?
I will have a thousand other questions. if you guys just start throwing all the info you have on me that would be awesome. I just want to make the right choice and do this right from the start. and this club looks to the one to get the info from. heh, maybe i will ship my crap there and just drive out for a SAS party!:beermug: :bannana: :laughing:

i would SOA the rear. it involves more work, but getting rid of the low slung hanger is good, and i doubt the strength of the calmini pack.

Going spring over in the rear works well, but plan on getting a new set of leafs non the matter.
Al's OEM spring pack (spring over) lasted one trip to gone Moab. His main leaf was still good so I believe he split up a cherokee pack to make up for the busted springs.
I have some pics of Chris's spring over..I am on the road for a few days so if ya want I can post them Thursday.
Getting things up and out of the way is a good deal!

Call up Alcan get your rear packs from them. But keep in mind they will sag 1.5-2"
The Calmini kit up front is really hard to beat.
SYE is probably the way to go and possibly having the drive line extended.

go through je reel for your driveshaft they build the calmini one and they supposebly sell them for less thats what the guy told me on the phone i only needed a part though

I went SOA and I wish I wouldn't have. The stock spring pack is wimpy and as soon as I can afford to I will probably go back to spring under.
I also recommend the SYE.

Just because I want to know for the future, whats the best way to go with shocks and spings for the calmini kit?

Go back to spring under? Why would you do that? You'll decrease your clearance under the axle. Did they not get rid of the of front hangers when they did it?
You'd be the first person I have EVER heard of doing that!

I've known numerous people who have done it. Spring under has less axle wrap and greater stability.
I'm not 100% commited. If somebody comes up with a better idea, perhaps i'll do it. 4 link, maybe? :beer:

Longer perches and posible putting the laod leaf back in are options.

only reason i would do SUA is it would be easier to get some things to work, like steering for one. beyond that, no way. I've seen SUA and SOA on similar trucks, similar style, and SOA flexes way better. just my experience, and preference.

just re-read, i guess we are talking about the rear, sorry. i still don't see wrap as that big of a problem, which can be solved with better springs, and that front hanger is horrible. there can't be anything wrong with getting rid of that.

The CALMINI rear SUA seems to flex really well.

But I personally would buy some spring perchs. Weld on the H233b use your stock leaf pack and be done with it. You can re locate the shocks at the same time. You can always buy all new frt hangers, shackles and leafs down the road and rework as needed. Just do the SAS and have fun.
Trying to build the ultimate suspension in one shot is hard. And expensive. I still have yet to get the most of my rear suspension. My frt setup easily out travels the rear. But I have had lots of fun trips.

Anyway... the rear Calmini Pack does flex well BUT I dont think it is really made to carry an aftermarket bumper, tire hanging off the back. Mine sagged WAY out & I ended up buying the Alcan packs.

well I think I have my SAS kit all lined up. a guy over on VAXC is selling the entire Kit. except the leave springs. which is fine with me. it is a great deal and I should have it in the next few weeks. so I hope to have the truck done in around a month or so. all I need to buy now is the gears, , axel rebuild kit "seal's,gaskets and bearings" and new spring packs, ordo an SOA......still on the fence with that. what whould I need to do the SOA on the rear? new spring perches, longer break lines, what else? re locate shocks?

Mine is similar, but I ended up using my PML shackles, didn't cut off the front spring hanger, used the stock spring plates, and my johnny joints went right into the stock rear spring hanger location (after we cut out the old mount...have to get a picture of it tonight if I can remember :D). I could probably use a longer brake line but we'll see.

I did a trick with my rear brake line, and it worked fantastic. I just built a little 90 degree bracket and bolted it where the original brake line went, then bolted the line to the bracket. It points the brake line straight up, with plent of line left.

I did a similar mod to my brake and abs lines. Just relocated the hardline down.

I found a place that makes nice brake lines. They make 'em for the racers and such, custom lengths and ends. The owner used to run Mossy Nissan's web stuff, and decided to go into business for himself. His site is simple, but contact him with your measurements, he can whip 'em out!

His stuff is Kevlar with steel braiding and then has a clear sheath over that to make them last a long time!

awesome! thansk so much guys! well I might ditch my junkyard axle and buy a pre built, locked,4:88 stuffed waggy . I might have to pay alittle more. but it might be worth it not to have and rebuild my old junker, get new gears, clean it and weld on the new radius arm brakets. we will see. my budget is maxxed!

Another easy way to deal with that brake line is to go get the longest bolt of the right thread you can find (like 120mm or so) and a small steel sleeve to use as a standoff (I put two sleeves together). Home Depot has the bolts and sleeves in their drawers of stuff. (Although I learned over the past couple days that some stores have a bigger set of those drawers than others.) Thread the new bolt through the sleeve(s) and you have an instant 3" standoff. There's plenty of flex in the rear hardlines for that. You can also bend the bracket up on the crossmember downwards to get another inch for free.

Ian has my old rear axle now, he might be able to take a pic and show you. It's really simple, and worked great for a long time!
