To my suprise they were already torn. Fell apart when i removed it. I made the new one out of an old shackle.

Hmmm. That looks pretty cool, but how's the vibration? When I tore a motor mount and had to trail-repair it by using a ratchet strap to tie the engine down, the vibration into the frame was horrible. It was like driving a giant dildo.

very nice. i may have to do that once i get my broke mount out, although i already have a nissan replacement for it.
Ian, what's it like to drive a giant dildo? nevermind, that's a visual i really don't want.
when i had a ratchet strap holding my motor in, i couldn't really tell any difference in vibration. you're just used to that nice supple d22 ride, made you soft.

Very cool. I just used a piece of chain. Seems like every trip some one breaks a motor mount.

Motor mounts are built to tear so the motor gets pushed out of the "danger area" in an accident. The king and alot of us are already screwing ourselves (crumple zones) due to all the mods we have done to our vehicles. If nissan didn't need to worry about crash test ratings and guidelines they would have made them this rigid in the factory. It's a good idea and I doubt he will have vibration. I'm gonna be copying his idea on my truck and i'm sure it will work very well..

Dude! That totally rocks! When I do my SAS, I'll be doing that exact thing to my rig. That is the coolest idea ever! Damn, I feel stupid for not thinking of it myself.

Finally drove it around and it actually feels smoother! I think i've seen motor mounts that look just like this on some older cars and definitely hot rods and such. If you dont have shackles lying around it might be easier to just get some poly mounts from Jegs or whatever. And, if i ever crash into another car chances are it'll be mostly below my engine anyway.

What will break if the motor mount can't?

In a head-on crash the engine is supposed to move down and back under the cab. If it isn't mounted properly, or if body and suspension lifts and other mods have changed the geometry, it could be driven straight back into the cab instead. 600lbs of hot iron and oil in your lap isn't gonna improve your mood. All of us with mods have pretty much decided that we value wheeling more than life itself.
