Sounds like my wife will be out of town for Gone. That means that I should be able to make it, and my SAS should be complete with plenty of time for practice trail runs.
What options are available for full hook-up camp sites near the majority of Gone activities?
I have a 27' foot hard sided camper that has plenty of room for extra bodies, if anyone is looking for cheap lodging post up here and maybe we can divide up the cost of the camp site and food.
This will be my first Moab trip and I am fn stoked.

Canyonlands campground was the main camping hot spot last time. Its a rather small campground so it was maybe a little cramped. But, clean facility's and it was only a few blocks from most of the trail meeting places. Oh and walking distance from the brewery, a big huge plus. :beermug:

Prices I found today...
Canyonlands CG:
Full Hook-up ... $39
Water/Electric Only... $35
Moab KOA:
Full Hook-up ... $36.50
Water/Electric Only ... $32.50
OK RV Park:
Full Hook-up ... $29
Water/Electric Only ... $25
Pack Creek CG:
Full Hook-up ... $25

If anyone is interested in splitting this cost and crashing in my camper, let me know. It sleeps six, but more like four in man world (unless you are really close).

We recommend canyonlands bemuses it's very clean and close to alot of things. Also since it is Moab in May the shade from all the trees Is nice and the winds are cut back some because of the big trees.
In front of the condo. I probably would not notice :)

My girlfriend and I stayed at Canyonlands, in the back-country sites. Nice and peaceful. The only complaint was that some hooligans took our Guinness.
Like Kevin said, the trees cut down on the wind, which is nice with the blowing sand.

I have always stayed at Portal (http://www.portalrvresort.com/index.htm) when visiting Moab and have always been very comfortable there. No pool for tent campers like myself, but there are two ponds to swim in which do the trick after a long day on the trails. It's just outside of town though, so you would need to drive a mile or two for restaurants or groceries.
How far in advance are people making their reservations?
(maybe I should call for myself today?)

Canyonlands in my opinion is by far the best. If you let them know you are staying for the entire week for the goneMoab event they will usually give you a 10% discount. I stay there every year.

Which site did you reserve? I called Canyonlands up today and they seemed to have no idea about the GONE event, nor of any participants staying there during that week. I would like to reserve a good site that is close to other attendees and I want to get a site reserved before they close for the season.

I tried to get them to give a group discount last year... was never able to. But it is by far the best campground today.
If I was going to camp, I'd do it at a free place. Of course, the cool place I know takes about 20 minutes of offroad driving and another 10-15 minutes before you get into town, but screw it. I wouldn't pay for one of those campground places personally. I'd rather have a condo with a real bed if I'm going to pay money.
Just my opinion though :p
I think you could get a trailer back there....maybe...depends on clearance. Not really any rock crawling but there are a few ruts and a few dips. Easy for just tenting it though.

Andrew,
You bring up something I was curious about. Normally, me and the brood road trip everywhere with tents and bags with as little gear as possible. We like to keep it simple and light. However, having two young children now and spending an entire week in the same place got me curious about renting a pop-up camper and taking some more creature comforts to enjoy after a long day on the slickrock. (and the dust storms I saw in photos from last year makes me wonder how enjoyable my 2.5 man tent would be packed with 4 humans and a dirty chocolate lab)
Are the trails going to assault my tow hitch? While in Moab I don't want to destroy my only means of returning the rental to Denver, ya know?
Are you going to be attend in 2011 Odin?

Having been twice Ill tell ya it sure is nice to have a hot shower, a fridge full of beer and a comfy bed waiting for you at the end of the day. Even if its in a trailer. Tent camping would suck to me.
