car looks a lot dif now...shiny paint and the wheels are powdercoated the same black. dif intercooler up front too. car is under construction now so no current pics...has the current main mods

straight 6 2.8 bored .080 over, forged internals, ARP studs, total seal rings, holset turbo off a 5.9 cummins, SDS spark and fuel management, fuel cell in the rear with a mean sump hangin down with anodized fittings and SS line showin, all autometer gauges. i'm hopin to go get it dynod here soon...expecting somewhere in the ballpark of ~450rwhp on pump gas and it weighs in at 2300 lbs.

Nice, get some pics up of it in its current condition. I've been wanting to rebuild an old Z like that for a while so if I decide to do it then I'm sure I'll have all kinds of questions for you.

how does a turbo from a 5.9 cummins work on a 2.8? seems kinda big. just curious, not trying to bash the build, it's pretty sweet.

not enough money left over from the truck to have any other projects or toys. i'd like to s/c the civic, but would probably dump that money into my truck instead.

Ryan and I were talking about the Cummins turbo applications last night and I had the same question...big turbo designed to spool at low RPMs on a diesel might spool up perfectly on a Nissan 6.

turbo's supposed to spool pretty nice....a bit of lag but is expected with the size of the thing...it's literally the size of 2 stock turbos...i had to fabricate a spacer becusae the intake side is so big it hits the manifold before you can bolt it on. the motor is pretty worked with higher compression and head work...i'm hopin to hit somewhere between 20-25 psi by 3100-3200 rpm.

Are you running anything like a copper head gasket? That kind of compression and then that much pressure going is pretty hard! Have you thought of the 300ZX computer and wiring to manage the injectors and whatnot? I know it's a trick on the older inline 3.0, but don't know about using it on the older than that versions of the engine.

i am running a hussey copper HG, i read a little on the z31 maf setup....but decided on the SDS efi route...it's basically like haltech or the likes but you can control everything from a hand held controller and don't have to boot up a laptop when you wanna make changes. i also run coilpacks so i can control spark with increase/decrease in manifold pressure. i run an AEM wideband in the dash that will datalog in the handheld piece...and can correct AF ratios from there. i'm gonna head on over to mac autosport when i get everything i'm doin done and get it on the dyno...just to have it perfectly dialed in. compression ratio isn't too insane...it's right at 8:1....so nothing huge..but higher than stock. next weak link is the tranny...right now i just have a 4 speed in there cause it ate 2 5 speeds and this is all i could find right away...they have adapters out now to mate a z32 300zx (90-96) tranny up and that supposed to support upwards of 1000hp. i fugure my target psi will be right around 22 or so....i've been told you sheer gears at around 18psi...but that's still one hell of a ride in such a light car!

Sounds like you've got it well under control. I took a ride in a Z32 that was dynod in at 545hp, and for a pig like that, it was still one helluva an adventure! Traction becomes a massive problem then.

Any plans on canning the rear and getting something stronger? A shortend 9" would take all that abuse and give you huge options for lockers and gears. Not to mention chromo shafts and disc brakes.

Also, ever think of sending in a couple of pics and a write-up to Nissan Sport?

right now i run a r200 rearend...it's open so powering out of corners sucks...there are a few dif lsd options which will prob be next. there are also adapters to fit CVs under it instead of the u-jointed half shafts...there are Zs with dif motor swaps that are street legal all running in the 9s...and the cv/r200 combo holds up well...even the half shafts are doin well and take a ton of abuse. it has disc brakes in the rear right now....rear brakes off a 240sx. front brakes off a 81 toyota truck 4x4...puts a 4 piston caliper up front.
