front or rear? i'd probably say detroit rear and ox front, but that depends on the axle too.

OX and ARB make good stuff. I like the simplicity of the OX, plus it comes with a really beefy diff cover.
Detroit is ok as long as you don't drive on the road alot.

I said ARB simply because with my 33 spline H233B rear end, it's the only streetable choice I have.

What do you mean by this Ryan? Other than the tire wear, does that make them wear out quicker or something? Does a lunchbox do the same thing? I've got a lockright in my h233b, and was thinking about putting either that or an aussie in the front, but seeing as where it's my DD, I don't want that if they're going to wear out really quickly or something.

A detroit is definately a no no for an automatic. Might as well spool it then, as the transmission keeps pressure on the locker all the time, making it stay engaged.
For a manual, not a DD, then a Detroit is the way to go in my opinion.
ARB's are nice, but maintenance heavy due to leaking seals and whatnot that tend to plague such things.
OX's have their place, but I believe that place is the passenger's side! The cable comes out of the right of the cover, and on a driver's drop truck, tends to make the cable wear out more quickly.
I would lean towards an E-locker from Eaton. It's an open diff when it's not engaged, and a full locker at the flick of a switch. No seals to leak air, no compressor necessary and fully streetable for a DD.
And that's for the rear.
For the front axle, I'd go with a nice limited slip, like an Auburn. Or a selectable like the E-locker. Regardless of the hub that you're running. For those with D44, I'm thinking hub fuses for sure, and eventually, E-locker for the front. Sticking with the mini-spool in the 9".

If you are putting a locker in a DD in the front, GO SELECTABLE.
Why? Very simply this: driving on ice/snow with a front end that's locked SUCKS MAJOR BALLS :D
If you can't afford two selectable lockers, that's cool, get a mechanical locker for the rear and a selectable up front, or LSD up front like Al said.
If it's a wheeler, meh go with whatever you want :D

Detroits are purdy much a spool 90% of the time. If you push the clutch in and coast around every corner it releases... otherwise it is a spool.

hoping my hubs (standard warns) are enough of a fuse, my front is a quicklock (lunchbox locker) and i am worried about turning and blowing things up. guess i'm gonna need some spares.

I liked my E-locker in my Taco. I have been spooled but never had any other lockers. Greg who has wheeled with us and the TJ had an OX and it blew up and never really worked...I think he has an ARB now.
