good looking axle! nice work!

what's up with the tie rod? stock tie rod sleeved at the end to accept chevy ball joints?

Looks like the tie rod was modded to get rid of the inverted T and also to give it a wrench face? Just my guess and I never claim to know it all. Nice work! I love build threads that actually have the project started and pictures posted. Instead of those Blah Blah's SAS thread and when you open the thread, it just talks about 'gonna'. As in Gonna do an SAS, gonna get an axle, gonna buy this, gonna gonna gonna! WTF?!?! Sorry, King, went on a rampage there and you actually get crap done. Looks like a great start and judging from your past projects, this one will be just as stella as the rest!

Thanks guys. The tie rod is an old digging bar. I figured it's got to be strong since is it's probably forged and tempered, so why not. lol The ends are sleeved to fit the tie rod ends.

Sooo, looking at these two photos, it looks like you ground down the origanal passager side spring perch that is cast into the housing. Is that right? or am I not seeing it right? If so do you have any closer/better photos of it. I will be doing close to the same thing with my new axle.

Progress looks great so far.

Cheers,
JSP

Thanks. And, yes you're right. I cut it about in the middle of the perch. Plenty of clearance for 35's to turn fully. I don't have closeups, sorry.

Xterra looks good and seems to flex pretty well. What springs are those up front, and do you know the installed height of the springs?
