I'm looking at getting a set of steel 15x8 wheels. The first set of tires I plan on running are 33x10.5 R15. Ultimately I'd like to upgrade to 33x12.5 R15 tires. Has anyone ever had any problems running a 12.5 inch wide tire on a 15x8 wheel? I've seen a few posts on XOC about guys running 12.5's on a 15x7 wheel with no problems, but I wanted some more input. My main concern is blowing a bead when they're aired down. Thanks! Jeff.

that's why you carry a spare.
The general rule of thumb is 4 inches difference, but you can go more without major problems. for once, XOC is right, you will not likely have any problems.
oh, and i run 12.5 wide on a 15x8 rim now, with no problems. in fact, a narrower rim will be safer due to being protected by the tire.

My old truck had 31x10.5 on a 15x8 rim with no problems. I don't see how two more inches could make that big of a difference.
Oh yeah, and I am one of those people running 33x12.5 on a 15x7 rim. Have not had any problems.

Jeff,
I'm running 33x12.5's on a 15x8. I have had them aired down to 20psi without any problems. But like always, make sure you carry a spare...I have 2, just in case!

I run 33x12.50s on a 15x10 rim and I air down to 15-18 fairly regularly without a problem, except that time I was winching myself up the waterfall on Poison Spider last year, wheels were turned hard and I was going over a dramatic bump in the waterfall and I blew a bead, but that's it.

I am running a 35" 12.5 on a 16x8 rim and normally run at 13 psi on the trail

Haven't gotten to play around with air pressure yet, but I have 13" wide tires on an 8" rim without problems.

What pressure do you air down to? I currently have 31x10.50 tires on 15x7 rims and want to get 33x12.50 tires but am concerned about the size. I have heard both ways as far as wether or not to do it.
I am not against buying new rims if I have to, but I would rather not.
Any of the rest of you do this? Your experiences?
Thanks.

I'm running 33x12.50R15's on 15x8 rims. I air down to 12 and haven't blown any beads yet. Slice a sidewall following Ryan when we were racing down Spring Creak, but other than that, good to go! I have plenty of rim damage to verify hitting many a rock, ledge and small human to attest that they hold up fine. :D
